Well, not being one of the absolutely worst imaginable, doesn’t make you good by default. Lula is not a good candidate - it just so happens that Bolsonaro is incomparably much, much worse. It speaks to the state of the Brazilian political system that, with millions and millions of people that could potentially have been candidates, it’s still these two that turn up as the two “best options” from the political process.
It’s a moot point now, because Lula doesn’t really stand a snowman’s chance in hell of winning this election. But you could argue that he, and PT, threw this one. I don’t think it’s far fetched, anyway, to say that a better candidate could have won this election.

Well my understanding is that no one is doing much for the favelas. Not even Lula in his first term did much for them. And he’s capable of much less now with the endemic Brazilian right wing funded and supported by the wealthy in my country. But that’s about as bad as I’ve seen. So yeah I really don’t understand the characterization or lumping him with the others. Their legislature there is chock full of bolansario allies. Who are Express enemies of Lula, and the rest of the legislature aren’t really allies either.
I suspect the characterization may have to do with the more radical-minded. If he’s not fomenting revolution somehow. He’s an evil failure?
