The video game Unrecord is an in-develpment shooter from the perspective of a bodycam. The dev released a trialer that legitimately looks like actual live action bodycam footage, but it’s entirely rendered gameplay footage. It quickly became one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. It also created an entire genre. There are now dozens of bodycam shooters released on Steam that copy the exact premise of Unrecord.
If you post a clip of what you’re working on in a game dev community, or try to organize some crowd funding, there is a chance someone is going to vibe code a cheap copy cat game cashing in on the idea before you even release.

I just watched the trailer and it looks great. But I’ll be honest that it doesn’t really take much to copy this concept, its mostly a filter on the first person view and some bobbing of the camera. The rest is story related, so if you already have a tactical shooter, it doesn’t take that much to get it there. Realistic graphics set aside.

That’s kind of the point. It was a unique selling point for Unrecord at the time they first showed it, but showing their hand too early meant they got beat to market by a bunch of copycats instead.
At this point devs are better off showing literally nothing until they’re ready to launch, but that means losing out on marketing momentum. Can’t win.

And a bunch of photoscans (megascans®?) than epic was really pushing at the time.
Honestly the game was more of a tech demo, and I hope they create some actual gameplay for the release, but yeah its not great when your game could be made in roblox in a week.
