Part of me thinks it’s like “we removed the seatbelts from the rollercoaster. It’s now your responsibility to hold on”…

That’s why laws that mandate safety are important. Seatbelts on rollercoasters are mandatory, while tech companies can pretty much put anything in terms of service since they enough of the politicians in their pocket that nobody outlaws it.
