Comment on Why doesn’t more of the Western left support the People's Republic of China?
CITRUS@lemmygrad.ml 2 years agoOh trust me I know, the War in the Ukraine is what really got my shit together. Thankfully I was listening to the Deprogram and started thinking more globally when it went down. Without being on Lemmy and learning the Geopolitics behind the War in the Ukraine, I'd probably be defending it, as at first glance you'd want to side with the defending country. Thank God I found Lemmygrad, right before it though so it was a close call. I do sympathize with western leftists and libs a bit, being raised as one, I'm just trying to get my sister to see the bigger picture. It's just a matter of time and effort, eh.

Generally speaking, it's probably a good instinct to side with the defending country, and there are clearly a lot of Westerners who genuinely believe that insert official enemy of the day is doing something horrible. You probably know this, but one of the main points here is that the LPR and DPR are the original victims of this war, and Russia really only escalated an existing war

This is what the steel factories behind the Urals were for, the incoming Nazi invasion was secondary
