You should give this a try, it’s the only thing that kept me interested as long as it did. In currently not in the mood for diving but I use this to shake things up. helldivers2challenges.com
It’s about having fun? We need some new modes, the same old missions and enemies are getting stale. The game has almost zero challenge anymore. Me and my team on discord can grab any 4 people from our group, clear a full set of 10s, and each only die once or twice per mission. Either needs to add a new difficulty that’s actually difficult, or some new game modes or their going to lose a lot of players. There’s a reason the biggest spikes of players are at major events, people come back for the 2 or 3 days something starts, ie super earth invasion, then leave for months after because it’s just more of the same.

Ya we’ve used this before. It’s kinda meh. Most of us already drop in with meme loadouts. Flags, cars, riot shields etc.
One of the guys in our discord is really good at making up like D&D challenges for us. Last one he did was cool, each team member was only allowed to bring 1 color stratagems. Except the leader who had to pick 1 from each of the other squads selected stratagems. But wasn’t allowed to call anything down till the squad members who color that was had it on cool down. Or if the green member had a rocket sentry, and squad leader picked that, he can’t call it down unless the green members rocket sentry was on cool down.
I’d still prefer a new game mode or something though tbh.

I don’t disagree, but rogue-lite ain’t it. As a concept, it’s not that different than what is already on offer.

It’s very different. An endless horde mode is completely different than running around and doing the same 4 objectives over and over. You can have leaderboards for solo or groups, you can make it so you can fortify positions with different weapons, turrets, and defenses. There’s so much that can be done with this. More upgrades for the super destroyers, more stratagems, bigger battles. It’s completely different.

Rogue-likes/lites and horde shooters are entirely unrelated genres with very minor overlaps, so I don’t see why you think that.

Helldivers 2 is an extraction shooter, not a horde shooter.
Roguelite is the suggested mode, not a rogue-like. I see why people lump them together, but the experience is different in a significant way.
This is why Arrowhead needs to put up or shut up. We’re all just speculating what a roguelite mode would add, and missing the elements already there…

I would never call HD2 an extraction shooter. Extraction is a completely optional objective at the end of the mission, as you succeed with or without successfully extracting, and even still get all of your rewards aside from samples. It’s such a minor part of the game that the store page doesn’t even mention it once as a feature. So sure, while you do shoot things and try to extract, for the same reason HD2 isn’t an RTS just because you need to make strategic decisions in real time, HD2 is far removed from the extraction shooter genre and fits significantly better into the team horde shooter genre.
And honestly, the rogue-like/lite distinction is a lost cause IMO. Even people into the genres will continue to call games like the Binding of Isaac a rogue-like until the end of time.
I agree there’s no way to know how this will turn out with what we know. At the end of the day, it’s all speculation about something we have no info on.
