    My money is on them advertising it as “next Doom game” in the rumor phase, then reveal it as a Quake remake when they announce it. Doom Eternal rather definitively wrapped up the story.

  We need more games like Quake, in the sense of making shit up as they go along. Hire some gameplay-obsessed maniac like John Romero - possibly John Romero himself - and let him fuck with movement and gunplay while a dozen level designers are given conflicting notes and zero oversight. Bodge it all together at the last minute so the only connecting thread is atmosphere.
