I really like some of the creators on tilvids, but because they don't federate I can't subscribe through my peertube instance.
You can obviously subscribe through mastodon/pleroma/soapbox, but the problem is you'll definitely lose the videos in the waterhose of content you get with a bunch of follows.
I figured out a fully open source solution. I've got the news plugin on my nextcloud, and peertube provides an RSS feed. Problem solved! It'll specifically keep track of new releases using RSS on there.
Now, I know not everyone has a nextcloud, but RSS readers are pretty common. You can download one to your phone to keep track of the latest releases on tilvids.

This post is a bit redundant now because peertube 3.4 allows you to do a "one-sided federation" where you can follow a specific channel on an instance that otherwise wouldn't allow federation.
