No, that defeats the entire purpose of this. if you want to make your own instance and talk to yourself, you can uncheck the federation switch.

AFAIk, on Lemmy there are no “private communities” like they can exist on Reddit or most other forum-software, unless you build your own instance. I think, private spaces do have a good reason to exist e.g. for families or other closed groups who’d like to talk about an illness or other sensitive topic, but Lemmy seems not (yet?) to cater for that, unfortunately.

As far as I understand it, the instance you are on decides the level of federation.
ie: If you post on lemmy.world ever instance it federates with will see it.
If you cannot find an instance that only federates with other instances that you want, the only way to achieve that is to create your own instance.
I may be wrong, but that is my understanding.
