MPs on the right of the party are pushing the PM to use it to opt out of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) – warning he must go for the “full fat” version to stop judges intervening.
Hmm.
IIRC, the objection from the ECHR on Italy was that the countries in North Africa to which people were being sent were not safe. I would assume that that would not apply in Rwanda’s case.

Nick Emmerson, the president of the professional association representing solicitors, argued that neither the deal nor new legislation “can overnight provide adequate means of safeguarding the rights of people removed to Rwanda”.
“The gross political fantasy that Rwanda can simply receive these people from the UK is utterly immoral, wholly impractical and sets a terrible example on the world stage.”

Sadly I think the Tories have gone too far down this policy road for them to back out, despite everyone being able to see the failures. After the SC ruling and Suella’s sacking they should have taken the opportunity to push it into the long grass never to be seen again. Unfortunately that isn’t happening.
Thankfully the first thing Keir Starmer will do when he gets in is reverse this law and end cooperation with Rwanda on this deal.
