In the “olden” times, should have parents vetoed the usage of Usenet/forums/AIM/mIRC/ICQ/etc. just because horrible stuff could have been shared there?
Additionally, should parents monitor everything their kids do? Other than the privacy/lack-of-trust implications, not everybody has the time/ability/energy to do that

Do you even use Discord? It is famous for having lots of nasty content.

Unpopular opinion: sheltering kids from everything traumatic is only delaying the trauma until a time that they are out of the house and don’t have family support. Running across graphic content occasionally online is a facet of modern life. They’ll cross that bridge eventually, no matter what you do, so you might as well be around when it happens to provide support and context.
