Of course it does. Automated decision systems simply automate discrimination. Nobody does the hard work of sanitizing biased data from the inputs. They just feed biased data to “neutral” algorithms and act shocked when the computer decides men who like baseball are “better” candidates than women who like softball.
In this case I’m sure it picked up that the plaintiff was from a historically black college, and based on discrimination baked into its inputs, decided to reject him.
