Since we can't downvote posts but Lemmy users have the downvote feature couldn't that handicap Lotide algorithmically since the feed sorting is partly determined by upvoted (I believe)?
Can remote Lemmy instances downvote our posts?

Hmm. Do you think any sent dislikes from a Lemmy instance would count on that instance?
I'm not sure what problem you're describing
I'm essentially wondering if the lack of the ability to have dislikes could mean other software (such as Lemmy) which can send dislikes can decrease the algorithmic ranking of Lotide content while Lotide users cannot do the same to Lemmy content, which I fear may lead to a lack of parity and a deranking of Lotide content across the board in non-linear Fediverse feeds.

Is there any plan to eventually add downvotes to Lotide?

Do you think any sent dislikes from a Lemmy instance would count on that instance? I assume they would, and if the community is also hosted on an instance that supports downvotes then any followers would also receive the downvotes if their instance cares
In my idealistic view, downvotes would be used only for content that doesn't belong in the community, which is also the case where it might be reported and removed by mods. Practically that might not work out, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
lotide has no handling for Dislike activities, so any received would be ignored.
