Microsoft is rolling out Windows Update improvements that give users more control over how updates are installed while reducing disruption from frequent or poorly timed restarts.
They’re starting to roll out live patching for certain updates, like most Linux distros have had for ages.
They’re starting to get worried about Linux market share, and it shows.
they are seeing businesses and some countries abandoning it.
Can you imagine having a mission-critical computer taken down by a broken MS update that you’re not allowed to say no to?
Some Linux distros may occasionally break things with an update, but at least they won’t make that update mandatory – you update when and if you want to.

Hopefully that works for my office computer. My home computer has never done that, mostly because I chucked windows in the garbage 2 years ago and installed Linux.
