It’s a scam. I’m surprised people haven’t gone to jail, though in the current climate, you know none of them would see a cell.

I miss those days!

- Comment on Baldur's Gate 3 introducing a native Steam Deck build that improves performance by reducing CPU load and memory usage 2 weeks ago:
It’s a fun game, but 5e really showed its age. If you like these sorts of games try Divinity 2: OS. It was built from the ground up for modern platforms. It does away with spell slots, overhauls magic, armor, classes, and terrain/elemental effects in ways that are fundamentally incompatible with 5e, but make the game a lot more enjoyable.
That didn’t stop me from playing a ton of BG3, but some of the gameplay itself felt like a step back, even as the story, characters, and UI improved.

Ugh, I hate how there’s no opt out. Just read a good blog post on dark patterns, written by a furry. It’s a good post.

I just use Firefox’s built-in reader these days. Typically I like standalone programs, but PDFs seem like something that can easily be integrated into a browser.

- Comment on Pebble is officially Pebble again 2 months ago:
I want a watch that isn’t a pain in the ass to set alarms, timers, timezones, etc. I also want 24H time and many days of battery life.
That’s why I’m getting it. It will be nice for cooking and work, haha.

It should be. Once it’s out.

This one was the Australians. Collective Shout did that, a fucking crazy org if you look into their past. Murdoch was the virus that infected the world, though. Most Aussies are great people, but damn, their evil people really plumb the depths.

- Comment on Subnautica 2 will have a bigger map and a silent protagonist, say devs 4 months ago:
Thank God for a silent protagonist. BZ is the game that made me realize why games have silent protagonists. Nobody would shut the hell up, I even turned off voice tracks.
- Comment on Whatever happened to cheap eReaders? 4 months ago:
I use my job with library books fairly often, though the waiting list is sometimes 6-8 weeks for popular titles.
- Comment on After raising over $800 million from its community, Star Citizen's developer delays the release of a new ship upgrade as players baulk at having to pay for it 4 months ago:
800 million dollars? They raised $800,000,000 and it’s still in alpha? What the fuck.
Also, I hate the trend of content such as ships releasing as a paid DLC, then later as an in-game grind. In the olden days, the ships were free in games like Elite. The only thing that cost money was actual DLC expansions. That trend was probably spearheaded by star citizen devs :p
- Comment on How your showerhead and fridge got roped into the culture wars 5 months ago:
I absolutely loved my apartments that had a heatpump and toilets with water-pressure powered engines(?), which barely used any water.
My summer electric bills (all electric appliances) were $66 in the 2020s, $130 in winter. My efficient toilet could have flushed a fucking coconut, it was so powerful that there was actually air getting sucked out of the room when you flushed it. It’s tank had no visible water, but had something that looked like a black car engine, which would blast air and water when flushed.
- Comment on Microsoft kills Windows Maps app 5 months ago:
They’re sad, it’s actually somewhat nice to have. It actually works better than my car’s integrated maps, which is wild. Yes, the OEM screwed up the maps app so badly that most streets don’t even have names visible, and the car struggles to find even basic chains, camp sites, addresses, etc.

- Comment on Subnautica 2 teases new creatures and co-op among the coral 5 months ago:
Fingers crossed that this is a genuine subnautica 2 and not another BZ.
1 is great with co-op mods, though it’s about as janky as one might expect. Still, it was a lot of fun building bases with friends, and going on submarine adventures.

That’s literally what some companies are doing, to let consumers know that they aren’t price gouging them, and that it’s that dumbfuck’s fault.

- Comment on Technology for lab-grown eggs or sperm on brink of viability, UK fertility watchdog finds 8 months ago:
This honestly sounds really interesting for same-sex families. I hope this technology works out sooner rather than later. It would be really nice to potentially have a fully biological family like straight couples :)
(And it might eventually be way less expensive than adopting donor eggs/sperm)

Looks interesting, but it will probably need to be way brighter for daytime use.
Eye tracking is a no-go for anywhere with bright snow in the winter time where you need sunglasses, or in the summertime and need sunglasses.
I could see it being useful someday.
- Comment on VW will invest up to $5 billion in Rivian as part of new EV joint venture 1 year ago:
Just you wait, these will be iconic and sought after in about 20 years, lol. People will be doing pet projects on them just like the Subaru bugeyes of the 00s. Which people also thought were weird looking, haha.
- Comment on A Just Cause movie is in production, with Blue Beetle director in charge 1 year ago:
Just cause 2 was great. But the franchise is not strong enough for a movie. 3 and 4 were trending in the wrong direction. It’s a series that needs to be shelved for awhile. Different games are needed, especially new IP.
- Comment on Motive Studio To Work On Battlefield As Iron Man Game Hits 'Major Internal Milestone' 1 year ago:
Battlefield 1 was the last BF game that felt genuine to me. Even that was a bit tainted by weapons that were either not present in WW1, were infrequently used, or required a three person team IRL in order to operate it.
Those updates were at the tail end, though. When shotguns were realistic and standard issue rifles were common, the game was glorious.
And the singleplayer stories were quite nice.

- Comment on Discord to Start Showing Ads for Gamers to Boost Revenue 1 year ago:
Discord in March announced plans to launch the new ads, which it calls Sponsored Quests, and they will become part of the platform beginning in the coming week. The ads will be targeted to users based on their gameplay, age and geographic location data, and they will appear in the bottom left corner of users’ screens, said Peter Sellis, Discord’s senior vice president of product, in an interview. To earn rewards, users must stream themselves, completing an in-game task from the advertiser while at least one friend is watching. Users who watch their friends can then set off on quests of their own.
The only Sponsored Quest I’m interested in is a blowjob by Peter Sellis, lmao. There are myriad alternatives to discord. Their hamfisted attempt is gonna drive away users. Move your office away from San Fran or something if the budget is tight.
