- Comment on Epic reduce their cut to 0% for the first $1 million in revenue for devs on the Epic Games Store 3 days ago:
The tiers work in the opposite direction though, only huge titles will likely qualify for lower % takes while indies barely scraping by are getting hit for the full 30%.
Again this is only a minor point of criticism, I love valve in general. But man it would be so easy to add something like a “15% on the first $50.000 in sales” exception, wouldn’t cost Valve all that much and would help small indie teams immensely.

Hey don’t mistake that comment for a defense of Epic. I am a fan of Steam in general (in so far as I can be regarding “license selling” companies.) I think Gabe did many great things for game distribution. I’m working on an indie game myself and if it ever gets to the point that I can release it, it will be on Steam no doubt. I do dread the day Gabe has to pass on the torch though.

Main problem: incredibly slow/unresponsive. Clicking things doesn’t give good visual feedback and can take forever for the underlying webpage to load/reload.
It’s designed as a webshop first and game library second (third, fourth?) Unintuitive UI, hard to search, hard to categorize, poor feedback on what’s being downloaded and why. Basically every quality of life feature from Steam is missing.
But to be fair it’s been a few years since I opened it. Might have improved a lot since then. I use Heroic these days. Also not amazing but at least it’s open source.

Man it’s a shame the Epic store sucks so so bad. I’d love to give developers a bigger cut. Steam is amazing but taking a 30% cut is a bit insane.
Still, having to struggle with the Epic launcher… oof. GOG’s isn’t great either but it beats the hell out of Epic still.
- Comment on Cyber Knights: Flashpoint hits Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam with a big new update live 1 week ago:
Looks like a good concept but man that UI is so incredibly busy and overloaded. Also feels like stealth is just a precursor to killing all the guards rather than the goal of the game. Are there any games like this in a cyberpunk setting that are more “pure” stealth like Invisible Inc?
- Comment on Subnautica 2 teases new creatures and co-op among the coral 2 weeks ago:
I understand why they’re going that way but Subnautica is such a quintessential single player experience. I hope they leave that experience the main focus.
- Comment on Egosoft reveal the big free Diplomacy update for X4: Foundations due out in 2025 3 weeks ago:
LOVE IT! One of my all time favorite games and it gets better every year. If you’re no playing this yet, get it! It’s regularly on discount, very affordable. And while the DLCs are great you can have hundreds of hours of fun with just the base game. Support this amazing company!

- Comment on Base-building survival game Necesse gets a big update and Free Weekend 3 months ago:
Well it’s a cute game but I’d hardly call it impressive. Let’s see what the update brings but it was pretty bare-bones in the past, especially if you compare it to actually impressive indies in the space like Core Keeper.
- Comment on The Witcher IV revealed with Ciri as the protagonist 4 months ago:
Typical girlboss character. In the books all she did was bake cookies for Geralt and now she has a sword of course.
- Comment on The Video Game History Foundation is “not done fighting” after US Copyright Office refuses exemption to aid preservation 6 months ago:
Don’t worry, we’re going to preserve these games anyway. Copyright means absolutely nothing in the digital age.
- Comment on The Fallout TV show gave the Fallout games a huge player bump, as everyone remembers they like Fallout 1 year ago:
I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters were likeable, the setting very well done and it mostly struck a good balance between the silliness of the FO universe and still staying more or less believable. Loved Matt Berry’s cameo especially.
The ending was a bit predictable and melodramatic which felt like it went against the grain of the rest of the show, but overall really well done. Looking forward to season 2.
- Comment on Bethesda update Fallout 4 for your "next-generation PC" 1 year ago:
I honestly don’t know why anyone would play Bethesda games in 2024. Every time I get the urge I watch a bit on YT and I’m reminded of the horribly stale gameplay (which honestly started turning stale already 10 years ago) and terrible writing and I’m done.
- Comment on $70 titles are doomed to go “the way of the dodo” says Saber Interactive CEO 1 year ago:
You can’t predict the value of a new, creative, interesting title. You can predict the value of a well-known franchise, standard, tried-and-true release. But they may have overestimated the value slightly when they upped standard pricing to $70, time will tell.

Theres no other logging it does? Have you tried running the script yourself from the commandline with the same privileges that cron has?
