I agree with you on this point completely. The article is pretty garbage. But that’s not what your original comment seemed to imply. It seemed like you were saying everyone should know this stuff so why should any article exist on the subject.
I think that’s why everyone is so worked up.

Everyone has to learn something for the first time. Today’s 10,000 and all that.

That’s what I said the second I saw it. Too big to be practically portable, for me anyway. So it’s basically a bigger steam deck that you only use at home. Not a bad idea, but not worth what they are charging for it, not for me anyway.
Lately I’ve been using an 8 year old 13" Chromebook and an old xbone controller to stream steam games from my PC to my couch.
No it’s not portable, but it’s all I would use it for anyway, and it cost me nothing but the parts I had laying around. Anyone else could probably do the same thing for just $100-200. Not $1000+.
I’m not against buying new stuff, and new technology. But it’s not always needed. For me anyway 🤷♂️

Thanks. I’ll look into it, I’ve got plans to repurpose an old wiiu into a deck-like couch gaming machine.
Right now my wife is using the Deck pretty heavily, so I’m using steam to stream a game to my old Chromebook, it’s working pretty well actually 🤷♂️

Is this better than steams built in streaming system?
Honest question, never used anything else
- Comment on Steam deck LAN? And game suggestions? 1 week ago:
Hmm maybe I’ll have to look into it again. I remember trying it once a year or two ago, and running into some known bug where it looked like it was gonna work, but never did. Updates happen though. I’m fine with doing it from desktop mode, if it works. Kludgy, but I can understand it’s not a priority to implement.
- Comment on Steam deck LAN? And game suggestions? 1 week ago:
Have they still not fixed or properly implemented adhoc Wi-Fi yet? Seems like a fairly big deal. Especially if you and your spouse are on a plane or train or something.
I mean, you could always use one of those pocket Wi-Fi routers. I keep one in my travel bag at all times for hotel Wi-Fi that tries to limit the number of devices, and to bypass the Wi-Fi login screen for my Chromecast that I also keep with me.

Turns out it was my resolution settings. I updated the OP to explain, but basically steam was using my crappy low res auxiliary monitor as primary somehow 🤷♂️

All my stuttering and audio issues went away when I switched to gigabit LAN, FYI
- Comment on Wife was using the Deck, I wanted to play on the couch, I had to get creative 1 week ago:
That’s weird. Just yesterday my stream audio started cutting out randomly. Very very annoying. I’ve fiddled with the settings, but so far no solution but to wait and hope it stabilizes. And if it doesn’t? Sometimes it cuts out completely for 5 or 10 seconds? Restart the stream and it comes back.
If this keeps up I’ll have to consider the experience a failure.

Maybe, possibly, but more likely I’ll just give steam more of my money 😬

Thanks for the tip

No? I mean, that’s basically what the wiiu did. Stream the screen to the pad… hmmm… I’ll look into it and let you know if I do it
- Comment on Wife was using the Deck, I wanted to play on the couch, I had to get creative 2 weeks ago:
Nah, the switch games stay on switch, we don’t have much that we play together.
We do share games in a steam family though.
We definitely need another deck. It’s on the list to do, when we can. We have zero desire for the new generation of switch. Until there’s a new Zelda, at least. I’m not into that but she is.

You’re not wrong!

Oh man, can you hack the Wii u game pad and stream steam to it?
I have one of those laying around, I could totally do this

- Comment on [Discussion] Do you use any headphones with your Steam Deck? 3 weeks ago:
I use these wired headphones. They are not noise cancelling, they aren’t even the new in ear style, no. They sit in your ear like old school ear buds, but built using modern technology.
They sound great, the bass is a little lacking but that can’t be helped. The benefit is that I can still hear my family around me, so if someone starts talking to me I don’t accidentally ignore them. They work great!

Agreed. Though I think it’s cool, it’s gonna be spendy.
If it could be less than $150, or better yet less than $100, I’d be in. Otherwise I might pass.
- Comment on What do you prefer for audio? Earphones, headphones, speakers? 2 months ago:
You’re welcome! Yeah all buds used to be that way, now they’re considered “cheap” and the in-ear kind are the new hotness. Better bass response and noise isolation. But the one school style is coming back, and those buds I linked are considered premium by some people 🤷♂️

On the SD I used to just use the built in speakers all the time. Literally years, I have a launch console.
But just two weeks ago I discovered they still make earbuds that sit in your ear instead of in your ear canal. Like, quality ones. And now that’s all I use.
They’re perfect because they sound great, but still let outside noise in, so if my wife starts talking to me I don’t just ignore her. But they’re also small and fit in the case, good for travel.

I’ve tried it as mouse, I’ve tried it with left trigger activateb and touch right stick activate and always active

I meant on purpose as in to remove gyro aim for some reason. Though I don’t think so, apparently forbidden west has native gyro support.
It’s ok if my old profile is invalid, but why is it now not possible to set up gyro again?

It looks like hers got nuked too, it’s on the “official” input scheme, and there’s no sign of my previous setup, and gyro is off.
I’m hoping this wasn’t a intentional change made by the have developer, that would make me pretty salty

Good idea! My last playthrough was on my wife’s account, this time I’m borrowing it on mine. I’ll try to go back and see what hers is.

- Comment on FSR 4 has been in development for 9-12 months already, and one of the biggest focuses is improving battery life for handhelds 3 months ago:
I’m reasonably excited. I like the steam deck, and I’m off the opinion that we don’t need an updated version just yet. A slower moving target for developers is best for long term game compatibility.
But eventually a new steam deck will arrive, and it will likely use the latest CPU/GPU, which will likely benefit from this new frame generation technology.
And perhaps some benefits will trickle down to the current steam deck, or maybe not 🤷♂️
But still, I’m optimistic for the future of mobile gaming.
