Just to echo, LG’s smart tv is an ad platform just like the rest of them, and it’s gross.
- Comment on What's it like adding a world to Star Wars? The Outlaws developers explain 8 months ago:
Because those other devs didn’t pay for an advert-article?
- Comment on World of Warcraft’s next expansion The War Within will run a beta before launch, and you can sign up now 8 months ago:
Honestly, given the advances in money milking machine design and management, the 20 year old ones are the better, less exploitative, options with fewer dark patterns.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
You seem to have learned its definition from Ms. Morissette.
But if it helps, it’s not ironic to use Free Open Source Software-based, donation-supported platforms to call out capitalist practices by for profit corporations that one doesn’t like.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
Do you know what FOSS stands for?
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
Darn. Someone should pirate Steam and then use it as a storefront for pirated games. That way it’s like twice as pirated.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
My solution is to pay for the games I want on Steam. Which is only possible for me when Epic doesn’t force exclusivity.
Other people can choose as they like.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch unless it’s FOSS.
I had no idea this would be controversial on lemmy.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
Honestly, I bet it would have better features and still somehow make more money for indie developers than the Epic store!
- Comment on [Game] Suicide Squad Update Makes Game Unplayable on Steam Deck 8 months ago:
I can’t believe that this game has dragged the Academy Award winning Suicide Squad and the Satellite Award winning The Suicide Squad’s names through the mud like this.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
People have the choice between supporting Epic or sailing the high seas.
I would argue that the latter is the more ethical option.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
Loss leaders aren’t bad.
Epic games is bad and their loss leaders support them, which is bad.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
Because Epic’s store is bad and rather than trying to compete on quality, they use anticompetitive practices such as paid exclusives to force you to use their inferior app store.
The free games as bait pulls in people to inflate their user counts artificially for investors, because from what I’ve read devs aren’t seeing a lot of purchases from their store.
And they are trying to force these terrible practices into the iOS ecosystem by abusing the legal system in multiple markets.
At the end of the day Epic’s attempt to purchase market share has already been bad for me as a consumer on one platform and it seems like they’re going to cause that same harm on another.
- Comment on The Outer Worlds and Thief are free from Epic next week 8 months ago:
When a company’s products are free then you’re a free product for the company.
- Comment on SDL 3 will prefer Wayland Over X11, if certain protocols are available 8 months ago:
I’ve been trying to figure this out and I did a bunch of searches and read a bunch on the topic, the architecture, the Mir drama, etc.
But what I haven’t been able to figure out is, what does Wayland do for the end user?
- Comment on Dragon’s Dogma 2 modders are finding ways around the otherwise acclaimed RPG's controversial microtransactions 8 months ago:
You wouldn’t have to do that as much if this item didn’t exist to be purchased for cash.
Creating minor inconveniences through design that you can pay real money to fix is a dark pattern that I will never support in any game and will get angry at in any game that costs money up front.
- Comment on Dragon’s Dogma 2 modders are finding ways around the otherwise acclaimed RPG's controversial microtransactions 8 months ago:
There are other camping kits that are heavier but you can only get the one in the microtransaction from paying real money. It becomes available to buy in shops only as part of the real money transaction.
You also are limited on your number of portcrystals so effectively you cannot get that item in game. You can get 4 of them without paying extra money, and this lets you have a 5th.
- Comment on Dragon’s Dogma 2 modders are finding ways around the otherwise acclaimed RPG's controversial microtransactions 8 months ago:
If you don’t pay extra money for the special camping kit you can carry fewer items at all times due to weight.
I didn’t say you can’t deal with them making these negatively impacting gameplay decisions.
Just that they are gross.
- Comment on Dragon’s Dogma 2 modders are finding ways around the otherwise acclaimed RPG's controversial microtransactions 8 months ago:
Man, I miss Rock Paper Shotgun’s quality.
The game made gameplay-affecting design decisions around these micro-transactions.
And they knew what they were doing was wrong because they didn’t put them in the review copies. Plus the character creator had 5 character slots, to the game’s one. Intentionally misleading everyone prior to release.
It’s just gross all around.
- Comment on Critically acclaimed Dragon's Dogma 2 hits "mostly negative" on Steam after players raze it for microtransactions 8 months ago:
It’s not baffling; there’s a microtransaction for the item that lets you redo your character.
- Comment on Ubisoft revealed an AI NPC prototype at GDC and everyone online made fun of it 9 months ago:
Agreed. The random NPCs shouldn’t just know everything about anything, but it would be amazing if I could ask more detailed questions about what they do know, like for example, asking for directions to something.
- Comment on Ubisoft revealed an AI NPC prototype at GDC and everyone online made fun of it 9 months ago:
From the other comments on here I guess this is an unpopular opinion, but this is exactly the type of thing I want added to games like Skyrim.
Even done poorly this will still be better than the millionth time that generic guard tells you he took an arrow to the knee.
And done well this absolutely has potential for great storytelling and character.
It’s not good enough yet, of course, but it has potential.

They bad a team v team version of this that was pretty fun in a previous expansion so this has some promise.
- Comment on Max will start cracking down on password sharing this year 9 months ago:
I’m still a little shell-shocked by Max’s turn from one of the best streaming services full of amazing original content, to this shitty garbage dump that it is today.
Removing completed content to avoid paying royalties to creative was such a big fuck you to everyone and everything.
I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t unsub from them until they removed 4k from my plan for the same price a while later.
I unsubbed from 4 services after that.
Fuck these guys.
- Comment on Paramount+ Orders New ‘NCIS’ Spin-Off Starring Cote de Pablo, Michael Weatherly 9 months ago:
I feel like you’re right on that. Is anyone going to sub to Paramount+ for a spinoff of NCIS?
Wonder if this is more to try and make them a better merger target?

- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 9 months ago:
The original works still exist.
You can care about the originals and like the derivative works.
Recognizing that Foundation the TV show is a decent show does not take away from the books.
Saying that it’s a bad show because it didn’t stick to the source material is ONLY a you problem.
- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 9 months ago:
And that predictions stuff is boring but the empire clones stuff is kind of interesting.
Regardless it’s a good tv show. If you hadn’t read the books you wouldn’t care about the “predictions over thousands of years” stuff.
- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 9 months ago:
Except most people who didn’t read the books and most critics say it’s a pretty good tv show.
So perhaps you’re wrong and it’s not the children this time?
- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 9 months ago:
Virtually everything that they added to Foundation made the show good and all the stuff that’s pulled from the books drags the rest down.
And it really only seems to be fans of the booka who aren’t able to separate the two works who hate Foundation. I think everyone I know who watched the shoe but didn’t read the books loves it.
In this case, you might be the thing that needs to change, not the show they made.
- Comment on How Marvel Is Quietly Retooling Amid Superhero Fatigue 10 months ago:
Superhero fatigue? Is that what they’re calling pushing out lower quality content at a faster rate?
Don’t blame us when it’s a you problem.
