My understanding is that you always could do this and people have been doing this for a long time. That’s why games like NEOTOKYO, Double Action: Boogaloo, and No More Room In Hell are free on Steam. More modding tools are great however

Removing the PSU would quiet things down. The PSU fan though, I had mine break on my computer awhile back and out of laziness and frugality left it for a few months and had no ill effects.

SteamOS 2 came out almost 10 years ago (!) with the release of Steam Machines. That one was public but it seems Valve has pulled the links to download it. SteamOS 3 is what is on the Steamdeck which isn’t publicly available yet.

They certainly have some tricks and talent. GTA 5 ran on the launch 360 which had 512mb of RAM shared between CPU and GPU.
