- Comment on Google will throttle your Pixel 10's battery, and there's nothing you can do about it 2 weeks ago:
If only. My wife’s phone is affected by a Google battery recall. You basically get $50 of shut-up money and get to live with a software update that nerfs your phone to an almost unusable state, or you can try and have a local, approved repair shop replace the faulty battery.
We’re living in a large city, there is exactly one approved store available. You can’t contact them by email, no one has picked up the phone in weeks. She is close taking the $50.
- Comment on Portable CD players are back and now work with wireless headphones 1 year ago:
I have a bunch of audio equipment in a studio and do run some balanced lines to stuff that requires longer cable lengths and is in proximity of unrelated, noisy devices (e. g. digital stuff).
Can’t say I can tell any difference for headphones.

What would a balanced output do for the 3 feet of cable that will most likely be connected to it? I mean sure, put it in if you can’t help it, but even though it’s a portable player, no one is gonna take that to the next motor fab where it would benefit from a balanced output, and at home an audiophile most likely already has a better player around.
Other than that, you’re right - the whole idea is nonsense to begin with. CDs have always been fully digital, so better listening options exist.
- Comment on 32°N’s liquid-lens sunglasses transform into reading glasses with a swipe 1 year ago:
I have glasses with prescription lenses that feature a much better (and better looking) frame and have magnetic, clip on, polarized glasses. They certainly didn’t cost $850 and the clip-on part is super slim and fits into whatever you’re using to carry the glasses anyway while not in use.
I’ll be interested in this in maybe 6 years when it’s $100.
