I am not a big chess but, but I just gave “The Chess” a quick spin. To me, controls seem good, you use the right touchpad as mouse and the tight trigger as your mouse button.

Sounds exactly what you’re looking for.Jokes aside, what about free chess on steam? Seems reasonably polished to me. What exactly have you had issues with other chess games with? Controls?

I have PC2 in my collection but haven’t tried it on the deck yet. I played quite a lot of the original Project Cars, which has a career mode, but that one is just seemingly linear progression, “moving up” in the series. It’s unfortunately lacking the entire car collecting aspect, checking which of your cars works for a specific event/series, and if none fits, “go shopping” for a car that does.
I also own Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione on steam, and they are great sims to sit down in front of the tv, set up a wheel and go racing, but they, too, lack the entire car collection aspect. You start a race or series, hop in a car that’s provided, and once done, you move on to the next series, abandon the old car, and get in a new one.
Really the best thing I can play is GT4 or Forza 4 on an emulator, and Forza 4 doesn’t currently work on the 360 emus :(
- Comment on Smaller rally/racing games I recommend you try! 1 week ago:
I am honestly missing something like that, too. A racing game that’s similar to Forza Motorsport 4 or Gran Turismo 4. Where you have to start off with small, cheap cars, compete with them earn money, buy other cars for other cups with specific limiations (“only FWD japanese cars built on a tuesday in 1978”), collecting cars along the way, etc.

Racing games are my absolute favourite genre. I played quite a few of them on the deck, here’s a list of games I can recommend:
- 80s Overdrive
- Burnout Paradise Remastered
- Dirt 3
- Horizon Chase Turbo
- Make Way
- Mudrunner
- Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered
- New Star GP
- Project Cars
- Race Condition
- Spintires
- Split/second
- WRC 10
- Wreckfest

I can get this to work on my steam deck. Back buttons and gyro.
But on my PC, it doesn’t work. Does anyone know what the requirements for this to work are? Do I need a specific Bluetooth version?

Crash Bandicoot trilogy for 3,99€ was in instant buy for me.
- Comment on Steam Deck / Gaming News #21 3 weeks ago:
honestly, it’s mostly the same for me, as well. I might play a game on epic, give it a whirl and if I like it, put it on my wishlist, hoping it’ll appear in a bundle anytime soon.

AFAIU, the GOG extension was a perk that you received for a one-time payment ($6 iirc), and I believe there were two different ways to make that payment. Continous membership/subscription to patreon was not necessary.
Unfortunately, they seem to have completely wiped information regarding this from their website, I can’t find it there anymore.
- Comment on Steam Deck / Gaming News #21 3 weeks ago:
Feedback in their discord seems overwhelmingly negative. Personally, them putting the GoG extension behind a paywall already left a sour taste in my mouth. Lack of GOG and Amazon support in Junk Store was always a big inconvenience that required use of heroic anyways, so for me it was more convenient to just stick to heroic. I will keep using Heroic launcher, instead.
I don’t wish junk store bad luck in their endevour, but I strongly believe if they actually pull through with this, it is going to crash and burn. Hard. It wont generate enough revenue to sustain long term development and be either partially or fully abandoned within 18 months. The concept of Junk Store is too niché to not be a FOSS community driven project.
They try to make it sound like it is not a subscription model: you pay $40 for 12 months of updates and support and keep using the software afterwards without receiving updates. But in practice, this wont work for very long. Store APIs are gonna change, backends are going to break, etc., making updates be a necessity. Software as a Service.
One thing I found to be a particular slap in the face for current supporters was a FAQ regarding the future of the GOG extension for the Decky plugin:
Q: Since GOG addon support is going to be bug-fix only, will it be added to the public domain?
A: We’re using the GOG addon as a canary in the coal mine. If enough people continue to support it by purchasing, that sends a clear signal we should keep investing time into both the GOG addon and maintaining the open-source code. However, if sales drop off significantly, it will indicate we can safely scale back or stop work on the open-source version without jeopardizing the project’s sustainability. It’ll be self fullfilling. People are going to stop buying the GOG extension for the current decky plugin, because future updates are not guaranteed. That reduction in sales is going to indicate to them, that there is no longer demand for it and every current supported is SOL. They are not even guaranteing a fixed ammount of support for the current extension here, they keep it vague and open.
If I had paid for the GOG extension, this FAQ would make me mad. - Comment on Steam Deck / Gaming News #21 3 weeks ago:
40€ for junk store is an insane price, even more insane that its a yearly subscription 😳

You can also find plenty of similar designs for third party chargers.
Since my original charger is set up behind my TV for when I want to hook the deck up, I am using a small Anker 313 45W charger for on the go.

Actually less worried about shorting something, note worried about it damaging some adhesive or protective film, or anything on the screen, really :)

I’ve reached out to Steam Support atleast, hopefully they can directly sell me one, or point me somewhere that I’m not buying one off Amazon
From what I understand, iFixit is their official partner, valves support website directed me towards that as well.
When did you get your steam deck? Mines an original Q3 an curious if this is something common for our 2 year old devices?
August 2022, close to three years old now.

I just went to ifixit’s website and ordered the battery. Ordered it on sunday night, according to my tracking app it has just been delivered, so no long waiting times.
Maybe it depends on your region? It’s in stock on the german website. Image
- Comment on Spicy pillow 🧐 1 month ago:
I thought about that, but checking the ifixit guide revealed there are holes spread around the battery tray, I was worried that any isopropyl alcohol I tried to get underneath the battery would just drain through those holes onto other hardware, potentially causing damage.
In hindsight, tough, maybe putting some IPA onto the plastic card I used to insert underneath the battery would have worked well.
- Comment on Spicy pillow 🧐 1 month ago:
Dang. You understand batteries.
eh, apparently, not really. When it comes to battery health, it feels to me like the wisdom changes every few years. It probably wasn’t very healthy for the battery to be on the charger for dozens of hours on end, despite battery management.
- Comment on Spicy pillow 🧐 1 month ago:
If youre talking about before the operation: I let the battery discharge completely (fired up a game and played until the system shut off on its own). I haven’t charged it afterwards, but imidiatelly removed it.
If youre talking about general usage: it was plugged into the outlet whenever I was not gaming, It barely drained below 40% when I used it.
- Comment on Spicy pillow 🧐 1 month ago:
This was a chore to remove. I had to heat up the battery so much, I was really worried.
I remember batteries that had a pull tab, why can’t they use those anymore
I am considering not using the adhesive that comes with the new battery, but using something a lot less adhesive.

One thing to note about Junk store is the fact that out of the box it only supports epic games store. GOG is an additional add-on that you need to purchase.
Personal, I just use heroic and have that added to steam so I can launch it in gaming mode. A lot more convenient

Make that “Gaming on Linux”. I’ve barely come accross a game that wouldnt work at all, ocassionally (usually with older titles) setting up a decent controll scheme can be some worm. To be fair, though, I mostly play single player games or casual multiplayer games - I don’t play any exports titles or competitive multiplayer games, so unsupported anti-cheat hasn’t been an issue for me.
All the effort Valve has put into proton for the steam deck has paid off for regular Linux gaming as well. So much so, that Linux has been my main OS for about a month.
