- Comment on Even PewDiePie thinks you should install Linux on your computer after saying he was "tortured by Windows" 6 days ago:
Lol
Okie Pew, show me an open source spreadsheet app that can do tables, I’ll wait.
Or, let’s see you install Debian in one try on any of my machines. Or worse, Mint. Machines that Windows has zero problem installing.
How about cad? Or running any form of CNC? or a million other systems that have zero support in Linux land?
Tell you what, Pew, maybe you should come to the real world where most of us don’t have time to play with our asses to get standard hardware, like Logitech mice to work.
And I use Linux every day, as servers. But I’ll be damned if I ever use, or recommend it, as a desktop. There are tools I need (like excel) that simply must work, as-is. Unless you want to pay to redevelop all the systems that have automation to output/input excel formats that have been operating for a decade or more.
If Pew was “tortured by windows”, then I seriously doubt his technical creds, , frankly.
- Comment on I’ve Worked at Google for Decades. I’m Sickened by What It’s Doing. 2 weeks ago:
Dude, it took you decades working there?
I saw the problem with Google from early 2000’s…as did my peers. We discussed the problem it would become, even then.
And you worked there and took you this long? Makes me wonder why now all the vile crap they’ve done is an issue. I guess you were OK with all the rest of the crap they’ve done…

It’s not like my 2016 version will stop working. Just means I’ll have to setup a SharePoint server to sync with mobile devices.

Eff 365.
Thats fine, I actually prefer my software to not receive constant “upbreaks”
- Comment on Plex is increasing Plex Pass prices and paywalling remote playback for personal media at $1.99/month or $19.99/year. 1 month ago:
Setup a personal VPN like Tailscale, Wireguard, etc, and it’s no longer remote playback.
- Comment on Telegram's Pavel Durov has left France to go to Dubai, reportedly after a judge authorized him to leave the country for “several weeks”; the investigation is ongoing. 1 month ago:
French authorities have accused the Telegram co-founder of enabling illicit activities on the messaging app.
This is so laughable, because it’s blatant selective enforcement.
If he’s guilty, then Facebook/Meta/Google, etc, etc, are guilty too - even more guilty by orders of magnitude.
They just have the government connections to protect them.

Thought I saw a headline about him living 90 days, implying he didn’t live longer. Sorry, I didn’t click on it to verify that my inference was accurate.

- Comment on Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026. 1 month ago:
I don’t think too many people will get caught short. I haven’t seen a company using it since before MS acquired it.
In the publishing/layout world, there are much better products… Or there used to be. PowerPoint and Word can’t come close to what a page layout program can do. I use it all the time for simple stuff that would take longer using Word, and I wouldn’t even try even slightly complex stuff with word.
I suspect of lot of page layout is outsourced by companies any more, which is why MS is killing it. Weird.
Guess I need to find the latest full version, I only have Pub 2016.
- Comment on Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026. 1 month ago:
I’ve been worried about this with Publisher since MS acquired it in the mid 90’s. It’s always been a niche product (I used it before it was an MS product).
Frankly I’m surprised it’s survived this long.
Thankfully I have a standalone copy. Screw Office 365.

I once believed university was a shared intellectual pursuit. That faith has been obliterated
Dude, I lost that faith during my first month, decades ago.
Even worse, Robert Pirsig documents the loss in “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”, written (partly) about his experience as a professor in the 1960’s.

- Comment on folder syncronization 3 months ago:
And depending on the OS on the other end:
Windows - SyncTrayzor Android - Syncthing-Fork iOS - Möbius Linux - Syncthing
Syncthing is just such a great sync tool. Best alternative to it is Resilio Sync. They each have their pros/cons.
