- Comment on After shuttering Shadow of Mordor and MultiVersus studios, Warner Bros. Games confirm rearrangement into four bits 1 day ago:
It is bullshit indeed. Especially now with AI, seemingly it would be relatively easier to throw in some adversarial llm in a game to keep a game engaging nowadays.
And imagine if other games started patenting systems like that: “Fatrolling is a unique movement system only found in FromSoftware games”. Soon there wouldn’t be anyone making games except for those with patents. - Comment on After shuttering Shadow of Mordor and MultiVersus studios, Warner Bros. Games confirm rearrangement into four bits 1 day ago:
Btw. the patented Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor that everyone loved despite only having been used in that one game, won’t expire until 2036, and yeah, Warner Bros. gets to keep it.
- Comment on YouTube is expanding its ad-blocking powers — closes loopholes that allowed some users to bypass restrictions 1 week ago:
Eh, it only lasted for a few hours, then I updated the ublock origin filters and things were back to normal. In the meanwhile I just streamed youtube videos via a media player that had builtin yt-dlp (smplayer) support.
It’ll always be a game of cat and mouse. - Comment on OBS Studio 31.1.0 Beta 1 brings Multitrack Video to Linux 2 weeks ago:
I guess that’s pretty cool. What would be even cooler was client side control of the multitrack audio sources. Would be amazing if each viewer could control the volume of each audio source broadcast from the OBS streamer. Imagine being able to control the volume of the game shown or turn up the volume of the streamer, or turn down the volume of the music etc.
- Comment on Windows 11 Start Menu Revealed as Resource-Heavy React Native App, Sparks Performance Concerns 3 weeks ago:
Ok, so WinAero points out React Native is cross-platform, but surely that shouldn’t matter for the Windows start menu, right? Unless it’s some ARM compatibility thing, making it easier to port or something.
- Comment on Nexus Mods cross-platform app v0.11.1 brings full Cyberpunk 2077 support for Linux, SteamOS / Steam Deck 4 weeks ago:
The new Nexus Mods App runs quite nice on linux. I’ve only tested it with Bannerlord as that’s the only game I own out of the 4 ones being tested currently and unfortunately it doesn’t launch directly from the app, but it does correctly deploy the mods, so after one has added the mods, one can launch the game from a preferred launcher like steam or heroic games launcher and it works.
- Comment on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition is out now, needs a workaround on Linux 4 weeks ago:
All 3 titles are getting review bombed on steam currently, apparently it’s a low-res blurry mess.

Thanks a bunch @PerfectDark@lemmy.world. So is this an interview that was originally posted on reddit?

To be fair, it’s a pretty rage-inducing proposal.
- Comment on Duolingo launches 148 new courses as it shifts to AI-first, replacing workers with AI 1 month ago:
They’ve been emailing me daily since I began the account deletion progress. Of course it’s one of those crappy “it takes 7 days just because, and if you log back in, we restart the timer!”.
For comparison I recently deleted my NordVPN account and it was instant. - Comment on Discord confirms it's moving toward 'becoming a public company' as it hires a former Activision executive as its new CEO 1 month ago:

At least that makes it easier to spot the US brands and avoid them then.

- Comment on Fedora Linux 42 is out now with KDE Plasma Desktop promoted and x86 programs on ARM 2 months ago:
I did notice my RSS downloader having downloaded Fedora-KDE-Desktop-Live-x86_64-42 from distrowatch, but I wasn’t entirely sure if it was the real deal or still beta.
- Comment on Tesla accused of hacking odometers to weasel out of warranty repairs 2 months ago:
Who would’ve guessed that part of ones morning routine before going to work would be to take a picture of your odometer to ensure not getting scammed. I guess it isn’t that surprising after the VW emission scandal where they ran a different configuration, reducing emissions, whenever someone was testing the car.
- Comment on How to install Minecraft on the Steam Deck 2 months ago:
Although it’s been half a year, that was the route I went with as well. Fabulously Optimized is a great place to start as a base for making ones own custom modpack.

Sorry, you’re right, I didn’t read the info box correctly.
- Comment on OpenRA update brings a revamped Map Editor, high-quality Dune 2000 assets, more Red Alert missions 3 months ago:
You need Command & Conquer™ Remastered Collection on Steam for the game assets in order to play OpenRA.
Also, the appimage needs to be run as sudo, otherwise it crashes with a seg fault. - Comment on Morrowind game engine OpenMW gearing up for a huge new 0.49 release 3 months ago:
I appreciate the correction. Thanks for your hard work on OpenMW ❤️
- Comment on Lutris game manager v0.5.19 released with improved Proton support 3 months ago:
I’ve never really wanted to use lutris and haven’t had a use case for it, but seeing it supporting emulation I’m starting to see it’s upsides.
- Comment on Morrowind game engine OpenMW gearing up for a huge new 0.49 release 3 months ago:
Omg, this is huge! The “Voices of Vvardenfell” and “Tamriel Rebuilt Voices” projects are morally questionable as they use AI generated voices trained on the very little voice acting in morrowind without permission from the actors, but it certainly does bring a lot of life to a 22 year old game like Morrowind. And with 0.49 it’ll finally be possible with the proper LUA scripting support, which is great for non-windows gamers.
