- Comment on YouTube will help you quit watching Shorts 11 hours ago:
I don’t even get why people are addicted to them. I watch at most 5 a day. And most days 0. I guess that’s the advantage of desktop, the controls aren’t dumbed down to just flicking my finger across the screen.

I was kind of hopeful seeing as Paradox was backing it, but alas.

Oof, it’s not getting good reviews. Apparently there’s no inventory, no items and no roleplay elements. I don’t even know what the game is then, but it doesn’t seem like a successor to the original game.
- Comment on Fight the nazis to rescue your dog in the new free shooter Darkenstein 3D out now 1 day ago:
I’m a middle aged man now, I was around when 3D acceleration became a thing for PC, first with Voodoo 1 and so on and so forth. And let me tell ya, you don’t need 18 gigs for these graphics. Or maybe you do, maybe it takes like 200 hours to complete the game, idk. I’m just complaining about the compression.
- Comment on Fight the nazis to rescue your dog in the new free shooter Darkenstein 3D out now 1 day ago:
Jeez, 18.6 gigs for a game that looks like that. I’m going to play it anyway of course, but I wonder why, with low res textures and models, that it takes that much space. Engine?

I saw a video on this yesterday. Apparently it’s a crypto scam thing.
- Comment on 'This is definitely my last TwitchCon': High-profile streamer Emiru was assaulted at the event, even as streamers have been sounding the alarm about stalkers and harassment 2 days ago:
If by dealt with immediately they let him go and just gave him a 30 day ban initially, then yes. She had to talk to her manager who then talked to Twitch who then upped that ban to a permanent one. And I don’t even think the police has been involved yet.
Amazon wanted to brush this under the carpet…
I really miss the pre-amazon days of Twitch… - Comment on GOG say their preservation program has been "harder than we thought", thanks to DRM and elusive creators 1 week ago:
Yeah, the “elusive creators” is a tough nut. If some company went bankrupt 10-20 years ago, and no trace of who holds the IP etc. that’s a lot of detective work.

I saw this earlier today, the clip on lsf to be precise.
Modern computing sucks. I remember downloading sketchy shit from astalavista.box.sk all the time, and because of that I had toformat c:
several times a year. But these days? Scary stuff. Luckily I don’t have crypto. And while proton on linux simulates a sandboxed windows environment, there’s still free access to root via the Z: drive that wine sets up, so unless one uses the flatpak version which is even more sandboxed, there’s still some potential danger there even as a linux user. It’s just a matter of when. - Comment on NVIDIA are investing $5 billion in Intel to develop new chips together 4 weeks ago:

Let’s see how long that lasts. I’m just glad I grew up on Sega in the 90s. It can’t be easy being a fan of Nintendo…
- Comment on If you've given up on Civilization 7, Civ 6 is free with all DLC expansions for a limited time on Epic Games Store 2 months ago:
I’m 1500 hours away from hitting 10k in Civ 5. I think I’ll stick with that for a few years more until LEKMOD stops being updated, and then I’ll think about giving 6 a chance…
- Comment on 8BitDo announces it's controllers now have Steam/SteamOS compatibility 3 months ago:
I’ve been using DS3 controllers for years, but they are starting to wear. The drift isn’t bad at all, but it’s there, although I suspect it’s mostly a few rubbers that’d need replacing, I have heard great things about 8BitDo, especially their Hall Effect controllers. Very reasonably priced as well.
So this announcement is just the kick in the butt I needed to get a Pro 2 Hall Effect one. - Comment on After shuttering Shadow of Mordor and MultiVersus studios, Warner Bros. Games confirm rearrangement into four bits 4 months ago:
It is bullshit indeed. Especially now with AI, seemingly it would be relatively easier to throw in some adversarial llm in a game to keep a game engaging nowadays.
And imagine if other games started patenting systems like that: “Fatrolling is a unique movement system only found in FromSoftware games”. Soon there wouldn’t be anyone making games except for those with patents. - Comment on After shuttering Shadow of Mordor and MultiVersus studios, Warner Bros. Games confirm rearrangement into four bits 4 months ago:
Btw. the patented Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor that everyone loved despite only having been used in that one game, won’t expire until 2036, and yeah, Warner Bros. gets to keep it.
- Comment on YouTube is expanding its ad-blocking powers — closes loopholes that allowed some users to bypass restrictions 4 months ago:
Eh, it only lasted for a few hours, then I updated the ublock origin filters and things were back to normal. In the meanwhile I just streamed youtube videos via a media player that had builtin yt-dlp (smplayer) support.
It’ll always be a game of cat and mouse. - Comment on OBS Studio 31.1.0 Beta 1 brings Multitrack Video to Linux 4 months ago:
I guess that’s pretty cool. What would be even cooler was client side control of the multitrack audio sources. Would be amazing if each viewer could control the volume of each audio source broadcast from the OBS streamer. Imagine being able to control the volume of the game shown or turn up the volume of the streamer, or turn down the volume of the music etc.
- Comment on Windows 11 Start Menu Revealed as Resource-Heavy React Native App, Sparks Performance Concerns 4 months ago:
Ok, so WinAero points out React Native is cross-platform, but surely that shouldn’t matter for the Windows start menu, right? Unless it’s some ARM compatibility thing, making it easier to port or something.
- Comment on Nexus Mods cross-platform app v0.11.1 brings full Cyberpunk 2077 support for Linux, SteamOS / Steam Deck 5 months ago:
The new Nexus Mods App runs quite nice on linux. I’ve only tested it with Bannerlord as that’s the only game I own out of the 4 ones being tested currently and unfortunately it doesn’t launch directly from the app, but it does correctly deploy the mods, so after one has added the mods, one can launch the game from a preferred launcher like steam or heroic games launcher and it works.

- Comment on Tesla accused of hacking odometers to weasel out of warranty repairs 6 months ago:
Who would’ve guessed that part of ones morning routine before going to work would be to take a picture of your odometer to ensure not getting scammed. I guess it isn’t that surprising after the VW emission scandal where they ran a different configuration, reducing emissions, whenever someone was testing the car.
- Comment on How to install Minecraft on the Steam Deck 6 months ago:
Although it’s been half a year, that was the route I went with as well. Fabulously Optimized is a great place to start as a base for making ones own custom modpack.
