I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Having personally used RetroDECK for a loooooong time now and nothing else for emulation? I can swear by it :)
Thank you!!!

It’s pretty easy if you want to try it. Both can coexist happily if say, you put all of RetroDECK on a micro SD card (the roms, emulators, bios, mods, texture packs etc all live on the SD card)
I’ve seen a lot try it out next to EmuDeck, and then make their mind up that way!
- Comment on Developer interview: my Q&A with the team behind RetroDECK 1 day ago:
Like most with a Steam Deck, I started with EmuDeck. It’s fine, and clearly used by the vast, vast majority but like you I just had my issues with it.
I had 3 emulators installed and the data (stored in like 289745873407 difference folders in obscure places) was around 32GBs. I love that RetroDECK can exist solely on the SD card, with no problems with performance at all. And that radial dial?! Magic!
I’m glad you enjoyed this :)

like some sort of article reading enjoyer of enjoyable articles of sorts
This makes me very happy. I know that exact feeling - finding something kinda niche and outside one’s own scope, but then enjoying it regardless?
Thanks, you’re very kind to say so!

Well that makes my screenshot just look utterly silly. Why didn’t I think of this?!
Thank you!!!

Oh this is so lovely!
I’m so glad you’re making the most of your Steam Deck, now next up you can look at installing my friend’s project: RetroDECK on your Steam Deck to emulate all the games from the older years! (and if you need any pointers or help doing it, reach out to me!)
I find the same thing with GOG games, and I tend to find myself checking the ‘details’ section of a game’s page to see if it has built-in controller support before buying these days, because my Deck is used mostly for GOG titles :)

Since there’s now ten of them, I figured it’s just easier for someone who is curious to click on my profile and sort by ‘posts’

Oh that’s so sweet of you!!!
Thanks, I’m glad you find my nonsense I share fun! :)
Frendica is one of the few I haven’t actually checked out (yet), but maybe one day I’ll make an acc there too!

The amount of the modern retro gaming handhelds is staggering. One company (its joked) seems to announce one each week!
But its nice that it gives people an option to play the old games without the old headaches. Modern IPS and OLED displays, save states and customizable community make OS builds mean there’s just a myriad of options now :)

I get a silly amount of pleasure from writing these, so its always a huge relief to see it not go down like a lead balloon!!!

Seems to be the perfect time to find a Switch OLED instead! With a new model coming, surely people will try to offload their current gen consoles at a cheap rate!

Please do keep on with Death Stranding! It really opens up and shows you the whole world in a bit of time. Its an investment, but to me it is pure cinema and art. I adore it so much.
And thank you, I’m just happy to get any comment saying these are positive for people. I appreciate you saying so!

Thank you so much!!!
9 of these so far, and it seems like I’m averaging every…3/4 days. Which sounds unhealthy when I see it in black and white -__-
(I keep promising everyone and myself that these will be one-per-week, but so far? I can’t stop mysefl!)

Yes, absolutely.
Even better, unlike Steam you own the of line installers, so you’ll always be able to own that game, even if GOG itself closed down.

Welcome back to the dark side!
I always find the Decky woes way overblown, they only happen when a major Deck release happens - and even then all you gotta do is reinstall Decky on desktop mode (or wait a few hours for an update).
It never deletes settings.
But, yours looks beautiful now. I esp love the Halo art!!!

Just go to desktop mode, and in the ‘pictures’ folder, locate your images.
You can transfer them to a USB, or even email them via the browser if you’ve no USB handy!

The STEAM button + R1!
Though I use the plugin from Decky called ‘shotty’ with the same hotkeys- it lets me take screenshots inside non-Steam games, which is the vast, vast bulk of my games library (GOG)

Enjoy!
I love the myriad of things I can customize on my Steam Deck :)

Oh no! How’d it happen?
With you RMA it? Or iFixit the screen yourself? I’m sorry to hear, that’s sad news.
