We used to have free speech and an open internet in the UK. Now I need a VPN to access Lemmy.zip because Labour has turned Britain into an Orwellian Nightmare.
Fight for our right to privacy and free speech.
Resist, Resist Today, Resist Tomorrow and Resist with all of your might.
- Comment on Two activist groups launch a legal challenge against the UK's bid to force Apple to create a data “backdoor”, arguing it would breach consumers' privacy rights. 4 weeks ago:
It doesn’t just breach them. It screws them up and throws them away.
Fortunately it’s not as gloomy as it seems at first glance.
There are three types of people. The ones that say If you’ve got nothing to hide then you’ve got nothing to worry about. These people don’t care that government can and is looking at their personal data.
Then there are the people that care but not enough to actually do anything about it. They still use iCloud or Google Drive without encryption, they use Windows and Facebook and/or Twitter.
Then there the people that actually had ADP enabled. They DO care about privacy. They already stay away from “Big Tech” like Apple, Google and Microsoft. They use as many end-to-end encrypted services as possible and keep their most private data stored encrypted locally. They don’t use Windows and have a privacy respecting operating system on their phone.
This bill only really affects group three and we’re already taking steps to keep our lives as private as possible without going totally off-grid.
Yes the Online Safety Act is dangerous, Orwellian and it should be stopped. But at least it’s brought the conversation about the states mass surveillance and people’s right to privacy front and center.

Well duh. The trailer for The Empire Strikes Back didn’t give away who Lukes father was either.

Has Bluesky improved lately?
I used it very briefly when it was invite only and it was just a sea of pronouns and pride flags with extreme verbal abuse for not sharing their ideology. Needless to say I didn’t stay long.
Or is Hive any good?

I wonder how big the Brazilian market is for Apple? They could just pull out entirely rather than comply.
- Comment on Reddit could soon punish users for upvoting violent content. 5 weeks ago:
Ah so violent content is banned unless it’s making Reddit cash. Then it’s fine.
- Comment on Reddit could soon punish users for upvoting violent content. 5 weeks ago:
Violent content is against Reddit rules. So why is the content not being removed and the poster banned?
