- Comment on Manufacturer issues remote kill command to disable smart vacuum after engineer blocks it from collecting data — user revives it with custom hardware and Python scripts to run offline 1 week ago:
I’m no law expert, but as far as i know, there were laready similiar cases. Reasoning (german law): Software required to run the product is not “licensed to use” but part of the product, which was bought, belongs the user and not the company. Remotely making the device unusable would indeed violate that term.

In germany there’s the “Computer sabotage” crime.

Linux is so broken.
Then don’t break it?
- Comment on Microsoft Is Abandoning Windows 10. Hackers Are Celebrating. 5 weeks ago:
I’m thinking about buying a dotzen cheap (from companies throwing away almost new) laptops, flashing Fedora with activated auto-update and bottles and selling them for maybe $100 more on ebay or wherever.
Good idea?

Shit header image. They don’t want to delete your data.

Title is wrong. It’s just about having no AI summary about Trump but having one about Biden. Could be any other technical reason too.

Yep, defragmenting still did help with NTFS even kn SSaD until MS made it a daemon in Windows 10.
- Comment on China is about to launch SSDs so small you insert them like a SIM card 2 months ago:
SSD still simulate HDD, because OS would need to adapt otherwise, lol.

No, Micro/SD-cards have a very simple controller (no wear leveling, trim) and thus need no heat spreader. This one would need one.

And Google copied and adapted them, on Android and in the Internet.

Sure do. They’re on my disk and without DRM or removed DRM.

Welp. Still was an interesting journey.

I found this: tomshardware.com/…/new-tool-burns-images-onto-com…
Btw, the technique is called DVD data art.

How to burn that? It’s a SIMH track, Xfburn/Brasero don’t recognize it as valid audio track and data burning provides no image. The software-proposed cdrecord command errors out; doesn’t recognize my two USB burners (one of them Verbatim Bluray, the other at least 10 years old).

Using old discs for something neat.
