Its entirely an attempt to recapture the big name authors like Brian Sanderson peeling off to either their own or vendors like kobo that will publish drm free books.

Kobo is a nice alternative to kindle as well. They have excellent devices and support all of the open formats. Works well with calibre, can sync to your local library, etc.

They are already using this or worse. Theil's Palintir is already doing tons of nasty data analytics. Ads in luck Palmer's weapons/surveillance company Anduril, and you have the data input and attack payloads ready to go, all from Chud industries.

Its definitely not a Balatro killer, but its got a great gameplay loop, entertaining story, and looks to have real longevity.
Id say its closer to a whimsical slay the spire, personally.
