TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca 5 hours agoI find that hard to believe. I’ve been able to stream just fine from Steam to a Quest 2 for months. It’s worked for years if you include using ALVR.

Steam Frame has its own custom streaming hardware and drivers. Other types of VR-streaming working for other VR headsets isn’t really relevant. I’m sure they’ll get it to work soon though, maybe even at launch.

On the Frame itself, yes. On the PC side it’s encoding and sending an audio/video stream and receiving inputs from the VR device over a network. They have implementations for other devices, so it stands to reason that they’d have an implementation for their own device. Maybe there are some kinks to work out (nvidia hardware, Wayland implementation, etc. ), but I’m sceptical that it “doesn’t work”. Especially since game journalism is full of hyperbole.
Then again, maybe I’ll have an expensive paper weight on my desk for a while, but hopefully not! 😆
