woelkchen@lemmy.world 3 weeks agoThey take the binary SteamOS image and add a different kernel and some other auxiliary stuff to port Valve’s image to new devices.
That’s broadly similar to what Linux Mint does to Ubuntu or Batture does to Fedora. Sometimes this is referred as a remix instead of a fork.

Thank you, I get that now. I was just originally confused that you called it unofficial, when he writes it’s official. IDK why he writes it like that?

I’m not the developer but my guess is that they want to distinguish this from Armada which is something like Bazzite but using Arch Linux where everything is recompiled.
