Machete - versatile for protection, hunting, cooking
Water purifier - no explanation needed
Night vision goggles maybe? - more discrete than a flashlight
Jeep - but you know that thing will break down pretty quickly

Trapping is probably better terminology. A machete can be used to easily enough make some simple traps, then execute whatever was caught. Hopefully food.
