possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 month agoI do think we have the power to be the better man. Lead by example and don’t follow. If Russia were to successfully nuke the US would you really want to retaliate? A retaliation would kill millions of innocent people.

Do you want to live in a world where Russia is nuking major world powers without repercussions? Because if there’s no retaliation, they’re going to nuke any country they feel like nuking.

Let them. The blood of millions of lives will be on there hands. Somehow I don’t think they are going to do that willy nilly. Same thing with the US. The US probably isn’t going to nuke Russia.

The basic idea is not letting anyone nuke anyone else by making the consequences really really absurd.
The doomsday machine isn’t for winning wars, it is for avoiding them.
