I know nothing about Alan Wake, but I have played Control, do they take place in the same universe? Or is it just a coincidence that Alan Wake has something called ‘Control’ in it?

yes, all of Remedy’s games post-Max Payne are connected within a single universe, whether it’s a loose or a strong connection.

Control also had a dlc just for Alan Wake explaining the typewriter as an object of power like the ones stored in the dept of Control.
