CCP and their affiliates have been incurring sizeable losses instead. They released a mobile game, EVE Echoes, via NetEase shortly after the acquisition, but this has apparently fallen short of expectations, and CCP are now focusing rather heavily on “web3” games fuelled by blockchain bullshit. They are also still trying to make an EVE Online FPS, despite screwing this up three times in a row.

CCP had a one-hit-wonder and never again figured out how to make a game.

Or really knew how to manage their one game. They did something really cool, and then it reached its end game and had no idea what to do when that happened.

They add more ships, over and over, but more ships became harder and harder to balance. They changed resource allocation so it was less necessary to fight for space. They changed mechanics so people lost less. But it’s largely a game of wealth acquisition and when people don’t lose as much you have inflation and everyone had the end game toys.

They added a half dozen different currencies for different things. They added daily quests. They added login rewards.

Their end game was people fighting each other for space they controlled. But they never were able to deal with when everyone just sort of… Made pacts and stopped fighting over space. They never really, truly dealt with n+1 being the solution. They only made it where that became the necessity.

I’ve played for over a decade and while I haven’t logged in in a while, I still have an account.

Last time I played EVE I would join bombers bar when I could, that did a pretty good job at countering N+1 by bombing it.

But now every time I think about playing EVE again I just remember how fucking boring it is 90% of the time when you are waiting for a fleet to form up. Even small fleets. Oh finally people are forming up aaaaand its getting late I need to go to bed now. Well that was another waste of time.

And yet instead of focusing on their success, did everything to make as many more failures as possible.

Dust 514 was apparently really good but being PS3 exclusive it never took off

PS3 is the only console I ever bought and Dust514 was why. I don’t know if it was good enough really to justify getting a console but it was a pretty good game and supported keyboard and mouse so I didn’t need to bother with the controller.

Yeah, that was a very, very odd choice.

You have Eve Online, a PC exclusive MMO. And you try to sell the playerbase on a PS3 game? Most of them literally don’t have the proprietary hardware to run that game but 100% of them have a gaming PC sitting right in front of them…

This isn’t to say don’t include the PS3, but why the hell wasn’t it on PC where the entire Eve fanbase is?
