I’d like to play Minetest with a friends over the internet (not the same network). I previously used Hamachi and it worked well but I want to use an easy and open source alternative. So is there any real alternative or should I just continue to use Hamachi?
Hamachi like altervative

It’s not a 1:1, but I use OpenVPN (I run my own home server), I gave one of my friends the profile and it works just fine. Pretty easy, imo

do you have any tutorial. I just want to run a Minetest server for 2 players using OpenVPN

I’d really suggest something Wireguard-based like Tailscale instead of OpenVPN for latency sensitive applications like games.
The great thing about mesh vpn’s like tailscale is that each device connects directly to each other. This means traffic isn’t routed through a central server, which results in lower latency. If you run game server and vpn on the same host it doesn’t make a difference in latency.

My router supported it out of the box, then just install the OpenVPN connect client. Not sure how to do it otherwise

Zerotier, Wireguard (Tailscale make it easier)
