I wouldn’t be surprised if we see in the near future emulators that shamelessly borrow protected code now.

How do you figure? I haven’t seen any surveys, but I would guess the people playing games they’ve dumped themselves is far outweighed by pirates.

Yes, but those few are far more likely to stop because of this than pirates. It would be far harder to make pirates stop developing and using emulators than legitimate users because they aren’t worried about legal problems

It’s not going to discourage enough legitimate users to matter. Plus, this has been Nintendo’s MO for a long time now.
