Isn’t there an easy Decky plugin that lets you set a visible timer for yourself? I don’t really need it but I thought I saw it going through the Decky store one day.
- Comment on 1 week ago:
There’s also the fact that even in the future, you’ll be able to have a current-for-the-time PC, and still be able to stream to the Deck locally anywhere in the house if you’re playing then-modern games.
It just has the perfect form factor and ergonomics to be the champion of that job, and i don’t see that changing any time soon.

Don’t know about their next console, but I’d love that new Steam Controller. Hop to it Valve!
- Comment on [Discussion] What's something that has improved your Deck experience? 2 weeks ago:
Hardware-wise:
I have to say that when I’m docked, it’s my 31" 1440p monitor. I love the way it looks, and it perfectly integer scales with 720p, so I have the option of running stuff in 720p native with no jaggies, and it looks fantastic.
When I’m handheld, I use a pair of light and thin bone conduction headphones so I can be anywhere in the house and have my ears open. I also use a simple pair of clip on 2x reading glasses to blow up the native screen, they cost me maybe $10 and really help out my 40s eyes.
Software wise: This is my main PC, and you know I always sing the praises of Nested Desktop because I’m always needing to bounce to Desktop mode. Decky has been transformative over the years with so many good plug ins.
But finally, I would have to say that the most impactful thing in recent times has been the Lossless Scaling frame gen… that’s a literal game changer. If you had told me three months ago that I’d be playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on my Steam Deck at 90 FPS, I’d have looked at you like you had a third eye growing out of the middle of your forehead, but here we are.

Yay! Glad to hear that you found the solution!
- Comment on [Help] Swapped nvme from old deck into new deck, now headphones don't work 3 weeks ago:
Not that I’m an expert, but I could have sworn I’ve seen people in the past who were talking about accidentally messing with the physical stuff involved with the headphone jack when they hard drive swapped.
I might be misremembering but just wanted to suggest that you may want to check into whether it could be physical, and not software related, because if you’re troubleshooting the wrong cause you can get stuck on it for quite a while.
- Comment on There is now a Decky Plugin to use Lossless frame gen on Steam Deck 1 month ago:
Hey, I figured out what I had done wrong, I dropped the files in the wrong place. Everything seems to be working now.
If you’re still struggling, this YT video shows you where you have to put everything to get it all to work.
- Comment on There is now a Decky Plugin to use Lossless frame gen on Steam Deck 1 month ago:
So I’m 0-1 so far (Samsung-screened SD OLED). Tried Baldur’s Gate 3 with a large variety of settings, it either crashed upon boot or booted with no video.
I know it’s a DX11 game so it rarely agrees with tools like this, but I was hoping, lol. If I try anything else, I’ll edit this same post so as not to take over the thread.
- Comment on There is now a Decky Plugin to use Lossless frame gen on Steam Deck 1 month ago:
Since it didn’t crash you, but didn’t seem to kick in, check and make sure that you’re not full screen on your in-game settings. Go windowed or bordered instead.
I have used it a handful of times on Windows and that was always a prereq to get it to do anything.
- Comment on There is now a Decky Plugin to use Lossless frame gen on Steam Deck 1 month ago:
Thanks for the heads up!
I have a couple of RPGs where I have zero concern on input lag, but they could definitely use a frame boost. I’m going to give this a try today. 😀
- Comment on Is there a decky plugin that allows GE-protons from Gamemode? 1 month ago:
Like the others said, you should probably clarify your question, it’s kind of unclear what you’re asking.
If you mean using GE Proton versions, they are just available in your game management options in Gaming mode once you’ve installed them, just like any other Proton version is.
If you mean downloading / installing them, I’m not sure what your objection would be regarding doing that in Desktop mode… using ProtonUp-Qt to do it is really quick and simple.
If it’s the length of time for booting back and forth between Gaming mode and native Desktop mode that’s your pain point, you can always just use Nested Desktop to flip over to your Desktop mode functions while you’re in Gaming mode and eliminate most of that wait time. I cover how to set that up in this post here.
- Comment on Power LED is switching between white and orange when unplugged and plugged. 1 month ago:
If you have an alternating orange and white power LED, it means that the Deck is struggling to charge at at least the rate that it would on the official chargers (40W or 45W).
This could be you using an alternate (and lower power than the official) power adapter, or it could have been an electrical issue where you were plugged in, and there was some issue with the current you were drawing.
For your future reference, here’s an old Reddit thread I found back when I got my OLED Steam Deck; I bookmarked it to keep the light codes handy.
- Comment on Does the charge limit actually work? 1 month ago:
I’m on the current beta stable release, and it’s working fine for me.
Be aware that if you’re already charged to 100%, and you play primarily plugged in and/or docked, it’s going to take to a while to work down to the level you set it at.
I do, and I set mine at 85%… it probably took 10 to 15 hours to go from 100% -> 85%. Now it sits consistently between 83% to 85% while plugged in.
Pretty sure it’s doing that slow drain on purpose because it’s better for long term battery health.
- Comment on Ogu and the Secret Forest via Epic Games - keeps freezing 2 months ago:
All Steam Decks come with an SSD of varying sizes for their base storage, so you definitely have one. If I remember correctly the original 64GB LCD model had a slower nvme SSD, but all the other models should be similar performance SSD-wise.
Maybe if you have an LCD Deck, and I have an OLED, that was the difference? I know they don’t function much differently in most ways, but I have heard that there are some slight background tech differences between them that have them perform differently in some scenarios.
Can’t say we didn’t try though!
- Comment on Ogu and the Secret Forest via Epic Games - keeps freezing 2 months ago:
I did get into the game, I was playing it for almost half an hour the other day.
Did you run Heroic using Proton? Because if so you definitely don’t want to do that, Heroic itself should be run without compatibility tools.
Let me give it another go today, I haven’t changed anything since I ran it over the weekend.
- Comment on Ogu and the Secret Forest via Epic Games - keeps freezing 2 months ago:
You’re welcome! Have fun!
This one doesn’t seem like it’s my normal cup of tea but I might have to give it a go further than the first ten minutes, I really like the aesthetic lol
- Comment on Ogu and the Secret Forest via Epic Games - keeps freezing 2 months ago:
Yes, but crucially, in Desktop mode, not Gaming mode. It didn’t work when I tried it from Gaming mode!
- Comment on Ogu and the Secret Forest via Epic Games - keeps freezing 2 months ago:
Never mind, I got it running!
So, I realized that I hadn’t tried it in native Desktop mode, and it can be important, it works a little differently to Gaming mode in the background. And that was it.
-
Go to Desktop Mode (native Desktop mode using the power menu option, not Nested Desktop)
-
Right click Steam icon on the taskbar > Library
-
Find Heroic Games launcher on your library list and run it
-
Just launch the game in Heroic like you normally do. My launcher knew to use a recent version of GE Proton automatically, I didn’t have to tell it.
-
Worked like a charm.
Super cute game btw lol

For reals though, there aren’t many Proton DB entries for this one, but one Deck user reported they used GE-Proton 9-16. So I’d download that version of GE Proton if you haven’t and give that a go.

We’ve definitely sen in the past that availabilities vary by region.
- Comment on Using the Steam Deck docked has been a dreadful experience for me. Is it just me going wrong? 5 months ago:
There’s some component in your docking setup (the dock or the TV) that’s causing this. I regularly dock to a 1440p monitor and a 1080p projector with zero issues.
That being said, there are multiple docks out there (even the official one) that don’t jibe with both the Deck and every display and thus give a subpar experience, as there are widespread reports of that. You kind of have to luck into the compatibility of both of those components, and even then there are also TVs out there that aren’t really dock-happy with anything.
Try docking to someone else’s TV next time you go visit someone, if it’s fine then you know it’s either your TV or your TV and dock not liking each other.
- Comment on Microsoft wants a slice of Valve's pie (and more Deck gaming news) 5 months ago:
If Microsoft doesn’t 1) come at this from an angle of adjusting Windows into a good handheld experience, and 2) releasing this as an open platform PC, they’re toast.
There are a handful of people who don’t have a handheld currently who will blindly follow the branding, but I doubt a single person who is currently enjoying the openness of a Deck, Go, Ally, et cetera will voluntarily blunder back into a freedom-restricting walled garden of any sort.
- Comment on What are some light-hearted, feel-good, comforting games to play on the deck? 5 months ago:
I recommend Cobalt Core. Super cute characters and story, and very satisfying even after completing the main quest. It and Balatro are currently my standing “twenty minutes on a lunch break” games.
- Comment on Three years later, the Steam Deck has dominated handheld PC gaming 5 months ago:
I’m curious about the Go 2. Huge OLED screen… I know it’s not supposed to come out for a minute, but it’s tempting.
The ergonomics put me off of the first Go, it was not comfy to hold when I tried the display model. But I think they’re addressing that. We’ll have to see how it goes.
- Comment on Bad news for portable Monster Hunter Wilds hopefuls: the Steam Deck can't manage 30 fps, even in maximum potato mode 5 months ago:
Fortunately there’s still a zillion super-fun games that the Deck can handle fine. Also if you have another, beefier PC, streaming to the Deck is a thing.
- Comment on [Discussion] What are you playing on your deck? - February 2025 6 months ago:
Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 again, after a several month hiatus from it. But this time I’m doing Honour Mode for the first time, currently working through Act I.
It’s tough! Especially early game. I decided for some hard-to-kill character builds, to try to avoid team wipes.
Playing as Gale, target build is Drac Sorc (Cold) 1, Abj Wiz 11, specced on INT. Idea is to get utility cantrips, scales, and Armor of Ag from sorcerer, everything else goes into making Gale an Arcane Ward tank. He sprints into melee combat, the enemies kill themselves on the Armor of Ag retaliation when they hit him, rinse and repeat as much as needed.
Also having Karlach be the BarBearian, taking half damage from everything as she rages, and healing with that heal mace you pick up in Act 1 every time she clocks someone with it. It’s working well so far, hopefully it stays viable as the game goes on.
- Comment on Nested Desktop: What it is, and how to set it up 6 months ago:
You’re welcome! Though I’m genuinely bummed that it’s not 100% fully working for you.
One of the great things about the Deck is that we have essentially and functionally the same hardware and OS for our systems, so I was hoping that things like this just work the same for everyone… we don’t have the challenges of the rest of the PC community, where every single person is running a different configuration of parts. 🙂
- Comment on Nested Desktop: What it is, and how to set it up 6 months ago:
I’m sorry to hear that you were having issues setting up the docking script!
Without seeing what you were doing, it’s kind of tough to know where the issue was. I know I personally don’t have to change anything with the resolution properties on mine to make it work, it still is set to Default for me. It’s my correct resolution so I don’t have to scroll anywhere, everything is exactly where it is in native (in fact I’m using it right now to access Firefox and be on Lemmy 🤗 )
Were you able to change the height and width numbers in the script to match your monitor? The example I posted above is what I use for my 2560 x 1440 monitor, but you’ll get a weird result if your resolution is something different and you don’t change it.
