i really wish i could find a game that is just Civ altered to be a fun singleplayer game to keep playing forever
i don’t want to win the game, i just want to keep building and exploring and make number go up
- Comment on USB-C gets a bit more universal as the EU’s mandate goes into effect 2 weeks ago:
i don’t get why people want C outlets, USB A outlets have been standard since time immemorial at this point and they’re fine for that. The only time i see a reason to output power from USB C is when you’re getting a charge from someone’s phone, otherwise it can just be A

really? it looks remarkably un-angsty to me! i’d expect someone who shoots a dude to write something way more angry, but this is just matter-of-fact “shit sucks here’s why”
- Comment on FBI recommends coming up with a 'secret word or phrase' to make sure your family know you're you and not some hellish AI copycat 5 weeks ago:
yeah the idea that you could fool people about something important with AI voices is fucking wild to me, do people talk like news hosts on the phone? Or do they just regularly send over $5000 when their kid asks them?
the one scenario i get is a fake hostage situation, in that case yeah you don’t exactly have the time or desire to go “hey mom can you prove that you’re being held hostage?”

this is why electric locks should NOT be relied on for safety: electric locks MUST default open when something goes wrong, which means that picking them is as easy as making them malfunction or cutting the power.

presumably they learned a lesson, and now they just roll with what reliably nets them more goodwill and keeps people playing the game.
and yeah go figure, if you actually recognize that you fucked up and genuinely work to fix it, people will mostly forgive you and start viewing you positively again, what a concept huh.

idk, for me hibernation has mostly worked fine so long as i don’t hibernate with a game running, which seems to be more of a GPU issue than hibernate itself.

have old xbox discs really not been cracked? would feel very odd if people hadn’t figured out how to run them from regular old CD readers and emulators…
- Comment on It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine 8 months ago:
the point is that you don’t have to fiddle with anything, you can trust the product sold by valve to be good, you have everything preinstalled and configured, and because thousands and thousands of people have the same device it’s easy for developers to target it.
- Comment on It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine 8 months ago:
what people want is the internals of a steam deck but beefed up and easier to open up

- Comment on FCC scraps old speed benchmark, says broadband should be at least 100Mbps 10 months ago:
i literally cannot get internet slower than 100Mbps symmetric here in sweden lol, astounding that providers in the US are so reticent to improve speeds.
it reminds me of the american rail freight industry, it seems they would prefer to dismantle the entire infrastructure and become investment companies instead…
- Comment on Valves iFixit partnership is a game changer 10 months ago:
i am convinced the vast majority of decision-makers these days are just actually incompetent:
Large corporations repeatedly amputate themselves to save weight only to go surprised pikachu when that causes them to fall flat on their face, small business owners will vehemently oppose building bike paths outside their stores because that would remove 2 parking spaces (yeah sure dude 2 parking spaces is totally enough to sustain your business, that has no relation to why it’s currently careening toward bancrupcy), and governments will unironically use the logic of “well we can’t build a bridge here, not enough people are swimming across the river to justify it!”. - Comment on Valves iFixit partnership is a game changer 10 months ago:
as has been repeated into oblivion, it’s just a PC, so it’s perfectly usable for non-gaming stuff!
If you want something more portable than a laptop and are alright with the slightly strange input method for a computer, there isn’t really anything better.

etymologically the word is made up of “i” and “land”, the “s” was added by some idiot in the 15th century. “i” is cognate with “ö” in swedish which simply means “island”, so just pull a power move and drop all the other letters completely.
- Comment on What the hell! Let's all just go crazy! 1 year ago:
fun fact: the S in island is completely fucking made up, the original spelling was “iland” with “i” being cognate with “ö” in swedish. It basically means island land and the only reason why there’s an S in there is because some shithead thought it was related to the french word “isle” and felt that INCORRECT idea warranted changing the spelling.
