Technically it’s 1280x800 which is 720p but slightly taller. While saying it has an 800p display would technically be correct it doesn’t provide context for the actual resolution of the display since it’s only half of the full description of the resolution and there’s no widely agreed upon “800p” resolution. 720p has a coded understanding for how sharp a display is among tech knowledgable people. 800p has no such history. So while saying the steam deck has a 720p display may not be technically correct its actually a much more useful descriptor as most people understand how sharp that display is going to be.
Technically this “1080p” display isn’t even 1080p. Its 1920x1200 but it has the same pixel density as a similarly sized 1080p 16:9 display. So we say 1080. 4k is also not 4000 pixels. Its 3840x2160

Yeah it’s a huge pain in the ass to replace the screen too.

If you just launch steam big picture through moonlight and use the host client’s steam configuration you’d just be configuring an emulated Xbox controller. (which might be fine for your use case) you’d lose out on all the steam deck specific bells and whistles. No grip buttons or touch pads. If you use moondeck you keep all of the steam decks funtionaitly.

If you set up the moondeck decky plugin you can use your configurations without any hassle.

To add to this, there’s also a decky plugin called MoonDeck which, once set up, allows you to launch a stream for any game from the game itself rather than from the moonlight client. Really useful if you’re someone that likes to customize your controller configuration for each game.

I somehow missed steam deck tools as a thing. Last time I tried figuring things out rewasd is what I kept finding.
Anyway just grabbed steam deck tools last night because of your comment and it’s great so far. Currently playing Lies of P and it’s perfect. Good looking out, man.

Only real way is to install windows. Even then though it’s not great. You have to use some third party apps to get windows store to recognize the steam deck controls as a controller. It’s a pain in the ass to get working at all and in my experience it’s super flakey and prone to crashes. (if you’ve ever tried to get the steam controller working with game pass games you probably already have a good idea of the problems you might run into). A slightly more reliable method though is creating a kb+m desktop config for each game you plan on playing through gamepass and manually switching to it before launching your game directly through the windows store. Unfortunately this isn’t going to work super great with games that require analog inputs like racing games but it works great for things like fps games or tradition kb+m games. Steam input is so flexible though that you might be able to figure out a way to get this working right with forza. I’m just not sure how you could. Maybe set throttle in game to some sort of mouse movement and in turn set right trigger to that same mouse movement in your desktop config. That’s pure speculation on my part though. I’ve never personally tried doing that myself. No idea if its actually even possible.
