- Comment on SteamVR for Linux gets "experimental improvements to async support" 5 months ago:
Looking forward to trying it out, since at least the release of HL:Alyx, async reprojection has been so broken on Linux, that the community wisdom has been to disable it for better performance. And I’ve heard from some that lack of working async reprojection is the main reason that they won’t use Linux for VR.
I’ve exclusively used my Index on Linux, and have been fine not knowing what I’ve been missing.
- Comment on [News] GuliKit will be releasing their Hall Effect Joystick upgrade for the OLED deck this month 6 months ago:
Does anyone know of Gullikit is still doing the thing where their joysticks have the square active zone as opposed to round like the stock sticks? I bought a set for my LCD SteamDeck a bit over a year ago, and after learning about the square active zone causing issues for some, I haven’t bothered to install them.
- Comment on FCC explicitly prohibits fast lanes, closing possible net neutrality loophole 6 months ago:
My T-Mobile plan still throttles YouTube (and some other video streaming sites) to prevent HD video playback unless I buy a HD video day pass or upgrade my unlimited plan to an even more unlimited plan. I don’t mind too much on my phone, since on a small screen 480p is mostly good enough, but I frequently use a VPN on my tablet to bypass the throttle since depending on the content, 480p can look pretty rough on the larger screen.
- Comment on [Game] Fallout 4 Loses Graphical Options on Steam Deck From "Next-Gen" Update 6 months ago:
I think launchers are allowed, they just have to be usable with controller input. Hitman 3 is verified, and still shows a launcher on Deck, but when launched on Deck the launcher shows and accepts gamepad navigation.
- Comment on Activision wants to recommend games to you based on the livestreams you watch 11 months ago:
It’s also arguably a bigger problem for the bad publishers like Activision, who have been trashing their own reputations for so long that even if they buy a huge “World Premiere” ad spot at the Game Awards, once I see it’s an Activision game, my brain just automatically turns off any interest I might have had in a game, because I know that even if the trailer makes it look interesting, it will ultimately probably be a disappointment due to greedy management. There are plenty of good indie games to play, and if and when Activision does publish a good game, I’m much more likely to believe word of mouth of the people I trust, than the recommendations of publishers, who are generally just out to push a $90 deluxe edition preorder of whatever is coming out next week.
- Comment on in honor of Halloween season what’s your favorite horror game for the sad? 1 year ago:
Lots of good suggestions in these comments so I’ll throw a couple oddball suggestions out just for fun. Dredge isn’t exactly a full-on horror game, but has some Lovecraftian horror elements, but I really enjoyed it. Not sure that kind of horror really fits the holiday though, so I’ll also suggest Pumpkin Jack, which is even less of a horror game, but is a pretty enjoyable 3D platformer with a lot of inspiration from the season and holiday.
- Comment on Valve’s next mystery gadget may be imminent 1 year ago:
Based on the recent development work that appears to be happening in SteamVR for Linux, which hasn’t gotten that much love since a couple months after Alyx released, my money is on this being a “standalone” VR headset. That said, I’ll be happy with almost anything at this point, I really enjoy pretty much all the hardware Valve has made over the years, and trying out their ideas for new ways to interact with games is always fun.
