Well lol sure, I’ll concede there’s a whole world of games that were built for spec equivalents to a smart toaster that would stretch the battery. Just nothing I’d personally want to play. We already did the 90s.

Yeah I mean I definitely have games like Notia that are 2d and happily empty the battery in 2, 2.5 hours. Guess I was just speaking relatively, 2d games I can usually minimize the tdp with no performance impacts and carry on for 4 to 6 hours, compared to any average AAA 3d game that is going to have a hard stop around 1.5-3 hours.

Most 2d games give me solid battery life. Hades, balatro, dead cells, pizza tower, streets of rage 4 all kept me entertained through cross country flights with no external power. But really you should just get a fat battery pack, it’s just plain useful for keeping all your devices topped up.

Doh why didn’t I think to do the fan while I had it open! Mine is loud as hell… Well, there’s always next time when I do the SSD I guess.

Go for it, definitely!

That’s fantastic! It should probably be a legal mandate for companies to make their parts easily available, it would reduce e-waste significantly.

I won’t lie I was super tempted to add a pro toolkit with the part order, but talked myself out of it and ended up with just a spludger and moray set lol.

Hall sticks are on my list to do eventually, that’s a great point the general upgradeability is awesome too. Appreciate the Bluetooth idea but I chose to leave the deck disassembled until the trigger comes in. The back screws inserts are molded plastic so the less times screws are removed & reinserted the better.

Finally got around to tinkering and sorry, no luck here either. I thought BPM had it’s own controller setting, but it seems like everything just maps to the desktop control scheme on the deck. Have to agree with the top comment I don’t think this is currently possible

Bummer :( I’ll poke around tomorrow and follow up if I find somethin

I haven’t tested this, but game mode I understand is basically running as big picture mode. Perhaps going to the desktop and setting up your preferences for BPM could work?

I’d love something closer to the vita I think, I don’t need the slide mechanic it’s just something else to break. Pocketable steam deck, hell yes.

If Rockstar wanted to bring back London '69 (maybe '79 now?) I wouldn’t be mad at all.

Not just the threat, unity clearly stated they are still moving forward with their plans, the fee just won’t apply retroactively. Of course, this is how it should have been from the initial announcement, but too little too late - it is the right decision to not use their tools for your future project.
- Comment on [Discussion] Steam Autumn sale is live! What are you buying to llay on your deck? 5 months ago:
I mean, it was also reactionary by Unity and they’ve since walked back their executable fee plan for legacy applications. If that didn’t happen I have no doubt Cult would have been pulled, because what indie can afford to pay PER INSTALL?
I fully blame unity for the debacle and fall out, and don’t think it’s right to blame devs for backtracking after unity put new conditions on the table.

Despite my best efforts I can’t seem to find the article or post now, but I have definitely come across someone in the old subreddit that did basically what you’re describing. They stripped an air tag down to bare minimum and hot glued it internally. They tried to use the decks internal battery for power, but it was throwing off battery draw enough to noticably impact the performance. I think they ultimately added a auxiliary button cell battery to power it, there was enough room in the case for this so it was still all internal.

Im afraid I don’t have a solution, other than suggest turn on the system before you intend to play, but I share your pain friend. Sometimes I can only squeeze in an hour of gaming, fire it and argh update time… Maybe tomorrow 😞
