- Comment on Bitwarden Switches to Commercial License 2 days ago:
Here it explains some self host options with links to “Get Started” for each:
bitwarden.com/help/self-host-bitwarden/
For example, here’s the link to “Linux standard deployment”
bitwarden.com/help/install-on-premise-linux/
You may also want to consider not making your server available to the open internet, and instead access it only on your LAN via VPN.
- Comment on How to talk about "AI" without adding to the anthropomorphization 2 weeks ago:
…involves at least three steps:
- Noticing which word choices are anthropomorphizing
- Finding alternatives
- Getting in the habit of using the alternatives

Why isn’t this left up to parents? They should be the ones doing the verifying and providing access to computing and the internet.

Ubuntu distros really need a ridiculously simple way both via cli and gui to disable snaps. And it needs to be respected through updates and upgrades.

- Comment on Valve dropped that Steam Machine Companion Cube case down the legal incinerator after its makers neglected to get their permission 3 months ago:
“They stated that the Companion Cube is Valve intellectual property, for which Dbrand does not have a license,” the post continues. "They requested we take down the product and launch film immediately. This was entirely within their rights, and they were direct, fair, and respectful throughout.
"We took everything down and made an appeal. We asked Valve whether there was any way to keep the project alive: properly licensed, with their blessing, on their terms. They said no. Given our backwards approach of building first and asking permission later, it was a fair answer.

- Comment on Insane: Microsoft's latest ad proves how useless Copilot on Windows 11 actually is 10 months ago:
…In the video, the influencer activates Copilot with the “Hey Copilot” voice activation and then asks it how they can increase the font size via Windows Settings. This is actually a pretty common scenario, especially when the elderly are interacting with tech hardware or when you connect your PC to an external monitor and the text is just too small to make out.
Now, Copilot asks Aura to navigate to the Display settings in Windows and change the text scale to 150% which is the recommended option. The really funny part here is that the scaling is already set to 150%, so changing it wouldn’t really make a difference. Apparently in order to work around this gaffe, Aura quickly manually sets the scale to 200%, which solves the problem but isn’t what Copilot actually suggested…
