- Comment on Doesn't each community being local to each instance split the audience? 1 year ago:
hmmm, ok, thanks, I’ll give that a shot. Pretty much all meme communities are already blocked here, that’s not an issue. The main problem with news communities is I’m trying to avoid subscribing to them so my subscribed feed is spared all the stressful content if I want a break from it, but I may have to compromise there.
- Comment on Doesn't each community being local to each instance split the audience? 1 year ago:
I agree on that point. I find myself wanting to block the extraneous news communities to only see one copy of a story instead of six, but have no idea which ones to consider the extras.

Well then you should have replied to the OP so they got this explanation instead of me.
- Comment on Doesn't each community being local to each instance split the audience? 1 year ago:
The basic tl;dr: is that posts and comments are shared and copied between federated instances, which is why I’m signed into the reddthat.com instance, yet can see and interact with your post and comments on lemmy.world, and vice versa. Instances can defederate from other instances, stopping that share of information, which is typically done when an instance has objectionable content, is being swarmed by bots accounts that spam other instances, etc. For example many instances are defederated from the nsfw instances, so if you want that content, you have to make an account local to that instance, or on an instance that has chosen to stay federated with them.

You’re missing the concept of federation between instances.
- Comment on Streaming Platforms Have a Profitability Problem 1 year ago:
At least then it made some sense to people because they were paying one bill for a large amount of content. Split it all apart and it changes to wondering why you’re paying for all this stuff, and for some it ends up being more expensive than before. Neither was good, both are overpriced, but every company becoming their own streaming platform was pretty stupid because they forced customers to make new decisions. My decision was to cancel everything.
- Comment on Streaming Platforms Have a Profitability Problem 1 year ago:
Maybe they shouldn’t expect people to subscribe to them all individually.

- Comment on I have no access to a home printer, will a library or FedExOffice or UPS Store let me print via Bluetooth? 1 year ago:
Geez what a pain in the ass. After all that they should at least provide something to download in case any number of technical problems happens before you can print it.
- Comment on I have no access to a home printer, will a library or FedExOffice or UPS Store let me print via Bluetooth? 1 year ago:
USB probably won’t work for that anyway. If you don’t want to go into work then your only option at UPS Store would probably be to rent the computer access time and do the tutorial on their machine and then print directly, with no phone involved.
- Comment on I have no access to a home printer, will a library or FedExOffice or UPS Store let me print via Bluetooth? 1 year ago:
You can use a USB drive, so maybe if you use a sync cable for your phone that would work.
I don’t think they allow bluetooth since that usually requires pairing with the host.
UPS Store has an app to print, not sure what that involves, could be roughly the same as email.
Best solution is to call a local office and ask.

- Comment on The amount of communities I need to block to not see the same old stuff over and over again 1 year ago:
I should add that some apps, like Voyager, help narrow down things by providing an option to hide all subscribed channels from the All view. So if you want, you can keep the content separate that way as well. Between that and autohiding already read posts, it’s not that hard to not get overwhelmed by the All feed.
- Comment on The amount of communities I need to block to not see the same old stuff over and over again 1 year ago:
Except that if you want a break from all the horrible news of the day, you have to avoid subscribing to all those channels so your subscribed view is spared the aggravation, then the only way to see that is in All. So blocking communities you’re not interested in ever seeing is the only complimentary solution that makes sense. If only some people would figure that out instead of whining constantly about seeing some communities over and over again. “I don’t understand why this community exists and keeps showing up in my feed.” Cool story, bro. Block it and move on.
- Comment on Is there a “proper“ way to say “6:05 AM”? 1 year ago:
Probably should take into account people with processing disorders. six-oh-five is straight forward for anyone, five past six and five til six are commonly used but can trip up some people more than you’d expect.
