Good questions. My sense is that it’s true, but that’s not based on much. HBO historically lets their talent push the envelope, which is one of the reasons their shows are usually so good. Though that might be changing. He wins Emmy’s every damn year though, so I doubt they’d want to lose that.

Good thing I’ve never had a password to share…
But fuck these guys. I loved John Oliver’s subtle throwaway line on Sunday, “new business-daddy is mad at us, all the time.”

He gets no sympathy from me. Oh no! Work was hard and not 100% fun the entire time! Boo hoo! Welcome to the world you sweet summer child. Most of us don’t have the privilege of having your kind of hard job. Most of us actually have hard jobs that we have to keep because we actually won’t be able to afford to live if we decide it’s just not fun anymore.
- Comment on Jake Gyllenhaal Responds to Doug Liman Boycotting Their ‘Road House’ Premiere 8 months ago:
This is a meaningless and stupid controversy. Here it is in a nutshell:
Director makes an informed decision to take an extra $25 million dollars from the studio knowing that it means the movie won’t hit theaters. He could have taken $60 million and gotten a theatrical release. Instead, he took $85 million and a streaming only deal.
Director boycotts the premiere because he says it’s one of his best movies and it deserves to be in theaters.
Okay cool, that may be the case, but what about the deal he agreed to? Seems pretty cut and dry to me.
Meanwhile, Jake Gyllenhaal is like, eh whatever, I’ve watched movies on laptops, and it’s fine, it’s a great movie and now a ton of people can watch it.
- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 8 months ago:
Yeah, it was the first Sci-Fi series I read as a kid, completely opened me up to the genre. I love the source material. There are so many decisions they could have made differently, and knowing the overall arc of the series can definitely make it frustrating at times, but for me it’s also just one of those lush, well-made Sci-Fi shows that I can still lose myself in. I’m a sucker for spaceships, what can I say.
- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 8 months ago:
Totally agree. I was put off by it at first, but I forced myself to pretend it was new IP with similar character names, and now I love it. It’s a very well-made show with excellent acting, gorgeous set design and beautiful cinematography.
I implore folks to just watch it like it’s not based on any books.

Yeah I had a tough time getting through House of Dragon, I really didn’t enjoy it. I’ll probably skip this.

“And that’s a wrap!”
“Turns out all the gun ninja shit didn’t take too long, wanna bang out some more action?”
“Hell yeah, I’ll grab the pistols.”
“Not the pistols. It’s time for the katanas. And the helicopters. You still got all those extra explosives?”
“Oh you have no idea, man…how much time do we have?”
“How long was that Snyder Justice League cut?”
“Uh that thing was 4 hours.”
“Ha! For real? Well fuck, however long it takes.”
…is how I imagine that conversation went.
- Comment on Jon Stewart’s coming back to The Daily Show, but only on Mondays 9 months ago:
I’m honestly surprised by this, but I love me some Jon Stewart. He’s a uniquely talented voice that has been noticeably missing from the discourse the last few years. I didn’t think we’d ever get him back in this capacity.
Maybe this causes some introspection at Apple? Nah never mind, they only care about their trillions.
- Comment on ‘Top Gun 3’ in the Works at Paramount 10 months ago:
I posted this 1990 quote from Cruise in a similar thread, but it’s relevant here too:
“I want the kids to know that’s not the way war is. That’s why I didn’t go on and make ‘Top Gun II’ and ‘III’ and ‘IV’ and ‘V.’ That would have been irresponsible.”
- Comment on Top Gun 3 takes flight as Tom Cruise plans a ton more movies 10 months ago:
This is a quote from Cruise after the release of the first Top Gun: “I want the kids to know that’s not the way war is. That’s why I didn’t go on and make ‘Top Gun II’ and ‘III’ and ‘IV’ and ‘V.’ That would have been irresponsible.”
So, he’s also a liar.
