- Comment on It begins: Pentagon to give AI agents a role in decision making, ops planning. 3 days ago:
Yeah, once you know to look for gaze-directing design you’ll start seeing it everywhere. In movies and shows especially, a big factor in cinematography lies in how well the director can lead the audience’s focus.

To oversimplify, it makes the image seem more balanced.
The audience for this image is folks who can read English and are therefore habituated to parse text and images from left to right. By having the hand-shaker on the left use their distant hand, they avoid becoming the dominant figure in the image, thus emphasizing the figure on the right and leading the eye toward it.

You’re preaching to the choir, my friend!
I love the way the interface is so minimalist too. It takes a bit to get used to but it really does a good job of staying out of the way of the game.

I still play Creeper World 4 on the regular. There’s something about the simulated liquid enemy faction that gives the game that same satisfying feeling as Pressure Washer Simulator.

- Comment on Peter Molyneux thinks generative AI is the future of games, all but guaranteeing that it won't be 5 months ago:
Generative “AI” is not “AI”, it’s a overlarge statistical model of written language. It cannot make NPC dialogue more lively because it has no concept of “liveliness” or “boredom”. A 10-minute conversation is impossible, anything more than a few words and the models very rapidly lose consistency. You can see this for yourself by playing one of the many “AI Dungeon” attempts at using large language models to run a text adventure.

Generative AI is a statistical model, not something that can understand what makes a good plot…

Oh, I just took that as a given since I gave up on live service games when Warframe introduced an utter timewaster of a rival system.

Sure.
You can just ignore the big publishers and their developers, all the interesting stuff in games is happening in the Indie scene.

Fallout 86 was so bad that I tried to get a refund, was denied, charged back the purchase, and swore off Bethesda in perpetuity.

I don’t trust any company that still relies on easily-tapped fax lines whenevery doctor or tax office I’ve used has had a secure online portal for uploading documents for years.
