The white looks, cool but I think it will look dirty a bit faster. Also, the white boarder may be a bit distracting
I always prefer the dark colors around screens.
MarauderIIC@dormi.zone 5 weeks ago
Yeah - my first thought was literally “that will look dirty quick”

You can still shell swap or vinyl wrap your OLED, replace joysticks and buttons, etc. It’s cooler to customize it in that way imo
ricecake@sh.itjust.works 5 weeks ago
The notion of getting a special edition white one, then swapping the shell to a custom black is funny.
TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Idk where you live, but a number of countries give you a 14 day cool-off period where you can return purchases for any reason.
Scio@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Eternally thankful this isn’t a rerun of the translucent black edition. I too got my first OLED delivered last week.

white plastics have a history of becomig yellow
rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 5 weeks ago
It’s called a patina, and it’s an intended side-effect of repeated use that increases performance.
Grass@sh.itjust.works 5 weeks ago
ah, just like how cam out is a feature of phillips screws that improves the spinning performance of the driver

Ngl a 90s PC beige steam deck would be amazing to run emudeck on
coronach@lemmy.sdf.org 5 weeks ago
That might be an appealing retro aesthetic to have!
magikmw@lemm.ee 5 weeks ago
Ngl I was convinced for a good while it’s mostly a result of smoking near them.
Grass@sh.itjust.works 5 weeks ago
I mean that will do it too, but it will be sticky and stain your skin and also smell awful
InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
As sexy as it looks I feel it might look dirty fast.
LiveLM@lemmy.zip 5 weeks ago
Man, I couldn’t get one over the fear of it getting yellowed but it looks cleeeeeean
Bosht@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
If you already own a steamdeck they sell replacement shells. Be forewarned though installation is absolutely insane and takes a loooot of time. I’ve had white installed on mine for about a year and have had no issues with it yellowing.
knightly@pawb.social 5 weeks ago
The back half of the shell is easy though, I swapped mine with a transluscent purple backplate a few months back. ^_^

I thought this wasn’t really a thing anymore with modern white plastic, no? It’ll still get more visibly dirty though.

Finally a good solution to my white sd-card. It looks so bad in my black Steam Deck.
vodka@lemm.ee 5 weeks ago
I solved this issue with the magic of a black whiteboard marker.
TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
I tried this but even permanent marker kept rubbing off
lud@lemm.ee 5 weeks ago
I barely notice it.
The SD card slot is pointing down when I use it.
I also have a case which makes it even harder to see.
01011@monero.town 5 weeks ago
Is this the MAGA Edition?
The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 5 weeks ago
Fucking hell, man. Good one.
HouseWolf@lemm.ee 5 weeks ago
I owned a white original model PSP and that thing never looked clean after the first week no matter what I did.
Honestly people who go all white on everything kinda terrify me…

White: ✋
Transparent: 👈
SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 weeks ago
transparent custom shells already exist. the problem is, that transparent plastics tend to be more brittle than solid colors
Nindelofocho@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Ive done a shell swap on my steam deck and while Its worth it and it looks amazing it was a PROCESS because you have to unglue the screen and the touch pads (if you want to swap those too) you basically disassemble the entire device
xthexder@l.sw0.com 5 weeks ago
There’s actually an official transparent case Steam Deck too. They had the limited edition OLED when it first came out.
