- Comment on Alan Wake 2 still hasn't quite made its money back, according to Remedy's latest financials 4 days ago:
Considering how well received this game was, perhaps it is more about marketing or misunderstanding the genre appeal?
- Comment on Players are now less "accepting" that games will be fixed, say Paradox, after "underestimating" the reaction to Cities: Skylines 2's performance woes 3 weeks ago:
Yeah. Particularly for a sequel where you have a direct comparison to a prior version, it needs to be polished.
For a new title, this still applies if it is part of a family of games (see Imperator).
Stellaris was broken in many ways on launch but had so much promise that we were willing to go through that journey with Paradox to see what would become.
CK3 was actually playable out of the gate.
- Comment on KDE Plasma 6.2 Beta released and Plasma Wayland Protocols 1.14 out now 1 month ago:
There is a world where Plasma release announcements are gaming news. And we are in that world. Never would have dreamed it.
- Comment on Paradox are bundling four DLCs into Europa Universalis IV free for all players 1 month ago:
They’re slowly laying the groundwork for EU5 being released. And that means slowly end-of-lifing EU4. I expect to see more and more DLC moved slowly into the core to keep people buying EU4 for a year or two.
Mods like Anbennar are doing more to keep EU4 alive than Paradox is, at this point.

Looks cool. But it’s no Mako
- Comment on Check out the fancy new trailer for Beyond All Reason a really great free and open source RTS 2 months ago:
Looking at it, the engine is GPL: beyond-all-reason.github.io/…/choose-recoil
But while BAR releases their source, it isn’t really open source (no derivatives): for example, with the many of the art assets, “all rights reserved”: github.com/…/license_general.txt
It does look good, that said.
The Recoil engine is interesting to me. It’s not something I’d seen before in the open source ecosystem (sometimes I live under a rock). I suspect the underlying mechanisms (although written for RTS games in the Total Annihilation family) might permit implementing something like a Paradox game with some tweaking.

Ironically, Anbennar’s hold digging mechanics?
- Comment on Outer Worlds 2 is looking "incredible", says Obsidian boss, but they did consider "throwing the whole team on Avowed" 2 months ago:
I absolutely love the first game, although some elements get a little repetitive. I replayed it this year with all the DLC and had a blast. Played it in story mode though, and just cruised through it to get to DLC I hadn’t previously played.
I do hope that inventory management gets cleaned up a bit. And that save games import.

I’m assuming it’s on PC already based on this comment?
