- Comment on If COBOL is so problematic, why does the US government still use it? 6 days ago:
Oh yes, and this too. “Modern” coders mostly forgot the art (necessity) of optimizing. Just because we have it plenty.
- Comment on If COBOL is so problematic, why does the US government still use it? 1 week ago:
Not only that. Finding coders will be harder and harder too. As said, it’s not trivial to “now i learn this language”. And the youth surely doesn’t see any reason to picking this ancient fossil of yesteryear :)
- Comment on If COBOL is so problematic, why does the US government still use it? 1 week ago:
Most likely reason they (and many others, including banks) still use it: Security. There are probably billions of vulnerabilities for everything and billions of people able to hack to some degree. I wonder if there even is some as400 hacker 😁 Also you can’t just decide to become one now, because you can’t simply download a compiler and emulator. You need access. And even if you managed that, those things are never online, so you’d need to be physically near. Name a more secure thing.
Besides that shit just works. The more complex you make it, the more errors could occur. Really critical operations can’t have that.

Without mods it took a good while, true. Back when it first came out. But mods really turn this old bugger around some times and then some. And that took most of the time i’ve put into the old bugfest. Though the community fixed most of those bugs, really runs like a charm nowadays.

Ignore steam forums. They were always a horrible kid’s playground. Since the term woke emerged, it’s totally bonkers. They really go nuts these days when you can’t choose man/woman but body type 1/body type 2. How could anyone give a damn about such things if the game does not suck? Like in kingdom come 2 where you could do a lot of things that finally lead to one gay scene. And then they complain about that. It’s an RPG. Stop doing gay things if you don’t like gay 😁

Be fair. Skyrim without mods is a horribly boring bug-fest of yesteryear. But with mods (and a lot of work putting into modding it correctly and WORKING) you’re right.

Ah great, a nice porn-game that isn’t hentai 😁

Milk the cow l as long as it exists? Never risk inventing a new franchise if you already own another one that sold well. But nvm, game will\would suck anyway. Like most AAA do these days. So who cares.
- Comment on Emergency Braking Will Save Lives. Automakers Want to Charge Extra for It 5 weeks ago:
Sure they are. But considering that my car costs 7000 more since I bought it 2yrs ago, I’d say fuck you manufacturer. Take the extra profits you make, for no other reason than greed, for that. They will survive.
- Comment on Emergency Braking Will Save Lives. Automakers Want to Charge Extra for It 5 weeks ago:
That shit saved my car’s ass at least 2 times and ours once. Never interfered in normal driving (I’m no agressive driver though). This should definitely be forced upon manufacturers. But without relaying the cost onto the consumer.

Sure, visuals can’t compete. Oh, no direct control anymore? I loved that “programming” of the whole group the most. Sure helped if you went in with no expectations of the previous titles. Guess I’ll just hop in and find out 😊
- Comment on Name your most played and most surpring game you played on Steam Deck 2024 1 month ago:
Better than the previous parts? Or at least as good? I totally ignored it so far. Not because of the “woke”-hate but just because the big ones rarely do anything worthwhile anymore and my expectations usually reach ocean-levels currently.

I never force myself. If it sucks, I’ll ditch it asap. But just because i would love the old combat, i also know it will never ever come back like this. I can also enjoy a more action-oriented combat. I just don’t prefer it when given the choice 😊
- Comment on Dragon Age: The Veilguard's impressive tresses feature '50,000 individual strands per character for over 100 hairstyles' 3 months ago:
Andromeda was ok in that regard. I will give it a shot in some many months when all is patched out and there may even be some mods (oh yes please)
- Comment on Dragon Age: The Veilguard's impressive tresses feature '50,000 individual strands per character for over 100 hairstyles' 3 months ago:
Thanks for the details, but that sounds… Generic. I really hoped for it to have them pimping up the programmable combat. But i see why that might not be as commercially successful as it’s probably more niche.
I’ll try that one with a different expectation then. Thanks again.

Is the combat like in DA1? With pause and “programmable” companions? I don’t watch/read reviews et al, hence the question 😁

The steam-forums are often toxic. But denuvo also is and every hate justified. It does absolutely nothing good for the honest consumer. Quite the contrary.

Oooh the codec lol. Dunno if the shield did or do use this one. Never really cared as i really only use one app, and it transcodes on server if need be.
- Comment on Imperfect, Linux-powered, DIY smart TV is the embodiment of ad fatigue 7 months ago:
Weird, considering you’re also europe. Though with firesticks i would really expect that.
Av1 means your tv’s 1st external input? If it’s hdmi then yes. There are cheaper boxes out there, but if you stream legally those might be troublesome (netflix), the shield ain’t.
But overall: “smart” - tvs suck big hairy, sweaty monkey-balls. The digital future ain’t a bright one for the critical thinkers and simple ad-haters
- Comment on Imperfect, Linux-powered, DIY smart TV is the embodiment of ad fatigue 7 months ago:
Can’t tell for android-tv, my last one was the nvidia shield and i don’t recall any stupid “discover” tab there. Just the apps i want. Or maybe by default and i disabled them… Would be totally pissed if I had to live with them. Especially because i only need one app on a tv.
On google-tv (android-tv is dead) i can change the launcher and hence those forced tabs aren’t an issue. That’s why i sorted the tvs by OS. Wouldn’t touch samsung & co.
If there was no other way, I’d attach a shield to it and forget about the “smart” of my tv. Maybe even a chromecast-shitstick.
- Comment on Imperfect, Linux-powered, DIY smart TV is the embodiment of ad fatigue 7 months ago:
Maybe a regional thing? They do the maximum they’re allowed by law.
Also i use another launcher to replace the google one. Also i have a google-tv not android-tv. Though it wasn’t different on my shield or other tvs.
Also i use pihole. So even if there might’ve been an ad someplace, i wouldn’t have seen it anyway 😁
If there was one single ad anywhere i would return this shit and indeed built my own. With blackjack and hookers. And linux.
- Comment on Imperfect, Linux-powered, DIY smart TV is the embodiment of ad fatigue 7 months ago:
Hm. I install emby on my “smart”-tv and done. No ads ever, no nothing. Just everything i ever want to see. Type a name, wait a minute, watch.

Oh right. I forgot about that simple solution.
- Comment on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition - Creations Update Patch Notes 1 year ago:
You can’t. Unless you go offline (for as long as you play it)
Best thing to do is download it elsewhere (he said eye-patchedly). You already have the license, screw them.
- Comment on Steam Workshop Has added support for paid mods 1 year ago:
Yeah great /s
I prefer donations to the modders. Not paying 30% of it to steam for doing… Nothing much. And also being forced to pay for a mod.
Modding made so many mediocre games fantastic. The community is always a blast. People doing it for the “fame” or just for fun, and also getting occasional donations as a heartfelt “thank you” as a cherry on top.
I can’t imagine paid mods to do anything good for the scene. When does money ever…
