I could see the new Steam Machine essentially just being a Steam Deck in a box. That’d allow it to have beefier hardware but it could use the same software and interface. Add a new tab for HTPC services and a quicker way to get to desktop mode and you’re done. It would be another hardware platform but there’d be a lot less design if they were similar in architecture.

Yes! I already have a full gaming desktop attached to my main 4k HDR OLED tv for watching streaming services that don’t have apps on the actual TV (and adblocking). If I could replace that with an HTPC that has gaming capability that’d be great!
- Comment on Jon Stewart says Apple told him not to interview FTC chair Lina Khan 8 months ago:
Stewart told Khan: “I wanted to have you on a podcast, and Apple asked us not to do it.”
“They literally said, ‘Please don’t talk to her’ – having nothing to do with what you do for a living,” he added, to laughs.
Apple abruptly canceled the eight-episode third season of The Problem with Jon Stewart last October, after tension between Stewart and Apple over which topics would be featured on the show, particularly with regard to China. Stewart balked at being “hamstrung” by Apple, which threatened to cancel the series if they weren’t “aligned” on topics, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Stewart then reportedly walked away from the show rather than cede creative control. Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Joe Biden nominated Khan, who is 35 years old, for the post in part for her public criticism of big tech; while working for a House sub-committee, Khan wrote a 449-page report calling for the breakup of large tech companies, including Apple, that she compared to Gilded Age monopolies.
The US justice department, meanwhile, filed a sprawling anti-trust lawsuit against Apple last month, accusing the company of pursuing a “broad, sustained, and illegal” monopoly of the smartphone market and thwarting innovation to maintain market dominance.
Of specific note: Stewart’s podcast was on AppleTV so Apple owned it. Apple was trying to censor and silence any potential criticism of them on their platform. Which is scummy, but expected.

I wonder if they’ll double dip or not suggest quests to people who pay for nitro.

I’m a capitalist hellscape if you don’t pay for service and intel then you can bet that it won’t be free and might be used against you even if it’s just for laughs.
- Comment on Max will start cracking down on password sharing this year 9 months ago:
That’s a very good point. Even if Oliver doesn’t really have the ability to skewer Discovery the way he’d why, him doing it at all is a sign to listen.

I can’t tell if any of the business daddy stuff is true or just jokes. If the parent company was really mad at them, does Oliver really have the weight to throw around to defy them? Is the show important enough to not risk canceling?
- Comment on Inside the Coyote vs. Acme Rollercoaster From a Voice Actor at the Front of the Campaign to Save It 9 months ago:
Unsure if it’s in this one but another interview by someone who worked on it said it was great. And it tested great. It’s probably all armor ROI, if WB doesn’t think it’ll make maximum money they’d rather have tax write off.
- Comment on HDMI Forum to AMD: No, you can’t make an open source HDMI 2.1 driver 9 months ago:
The licensing group that controls the HDMI standard, the HDMI Forum, has reportedly told AMD that it does not allow an open source implementation of the HDMI 2.1 (or HDMI 2.1+) specification, blocking tools such as AMD’s FreeSync from working over HDMI connections at resolution/rate combinations like 4K at 120 Hz,
Is this why I’m getting screen tearing on my 4k 120Hz OLED that’s Freesync when I’m using the latest HDMI cable tech? You can’t really get modern TVs with DP ports unfortunately, as much as I’d like them to run off of my desktop.
- Comment on Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series 9 months ago:
I have high hopes. Everything I’ve watched on Apple had been terrific.
Foundation, For All Mankind is an excellent alternate history, Constellation is starting out strong, Severance is one of my favorite psychological thriller, Monarch was a pretty good Godzilla show, Silo was fucking excellent Fallout esqe show, and the first season of Ted Lasso was pretty good.

Less surprise and more disappointed. They are doing the same thing the news stations did during Trump’s first presidential run: giving them free advertising.
If they don’t court their fan’s favor, they will decline (again) in popularity. One-off stunts for ratings that are unpopular have the potential to hurt them in the long run.
