That’s unfortunate. She’s a rotten, stupid bitch.

I mean they also had Trump on during 2016. Why is anyone even remotely surprised by this? They are a show. They work for ratings. Having someone running for President on there kinda makes sense number wise.
Neato@ttrpg.network 10 months ago
Less surprise and more disappointed. They are doing the same thing the news stations did during Trump’s first presidential run: giving them free advertising.
If they don’t court their fan’s favor, they will decline (again) in popularity. One-off stunts for ratings that are unpopular have the potential to hurt them in the long run.

Yep.
As a conservative I feel like right wing social media spins have been more cringe and ridiculous than usual. First the Taylor Swift stuff, now this...ugh.
ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 10 months ago
The problem with the media spins is they have to outdo Trump’s shenanigans.
As the right pushes further right, the crazy gets crazier.

I don’t think anyone really cares, let alone enough to have a ‘backlash’ against SNL over it.

This is the best summary I could come up with:
Saturday Night Live instantly started receiving backlash after Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance during the Feb. 3 show.
During a town hall sketch for the cold open, the Republican presidential candidate made a cameo to ask James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump some questions of her own.
Ayo Edebiri later popped up at the end of the sketch and directed a question at Haley: “I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War?
Following Haley’s appearance on SNL, some people took to social media to criticize the NBC sketch comedy show for giving her screen time but not other candidates.
One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Nikki Haley will only ever diss trump on a comedy show, and WTF is slavery denier doing on SNL anyway?
Saturday Night Live sure does have a long track record of comedy-washing hateful conservatives.” Trump previously hosted the show in 2015 while running for president for the 2016 election.
The original article contains 493 words, the summary contains 163 words. Saved 67%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

IDK… if this cameo causes one nutty trump voter to flip for her and dilute his numbers it seems harmless. I wasn’t watching ;-)
Crack0n7uesday@lemmy.world 10 months ago
People still watch that show? It hasn’t been funny in years.
ZeroCool@slrpnk.net 10 months ago
*SNL gets mentioned*
Randos for the last 45+ years: “That’s still a thing? SNL hasn’t been funny since I was watching it in high school/college!”
JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 10 months ago
It’s the same edgy dumb kids who post ‘does anyone even care?!?’ for internet points, except that everyone finds them an annoying waste of bandwidth and contribute next to nothing to the discussion.
Edit: actually, they contribute nothing to the discussion. Nothing at all.
Kolrami@lemmy.world 10 months ago
It’s a weird thing to say because you can’t know that it’s not funny or still not funny without watching it. SNL is and has always been hit or miss with humor. Some humor ages well, some doesn’t. We

Here’s the cold open from 1981, the show’s sixth season right after Lorne and the original cast were all replaced.
Nougat@kbin.social 10 months ago
I used to watch it all the time, until NBC pulled it off of Hulu. "Guess I don't need to watch that anymore."
realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 10 months ago
I saw some clips from this episode and it was actually way funnier than it usually is. You should check out some skits from the episode!
realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 10 months ago
Nikki Haley aside is it just me or was this one of the funniest episodes that they've made in a long time?
toxicbubble420@beehaw.org 10 months ago
i love snl but we’re all so tired of the trump sketches ffs

Every time I see “backlash” in a news headline it’s always just Twitter culture warriors who are always angry about something
IHeartBadCode@kbin.social 10 months ago
Literally from the article:
And that's it for citations on this "backlash". "This story is fucking trash" and since one person on kbin said that, it must be true!
Sometimes I read this garbage and I feel like it's that part from Mean Girls.

I’m pretty confident it’s always the writer who smells an opportunity for clicks, do they write the story first then look for a source.
If they luck out, they’ll find it trending. But mostly it’s the “one person on Twitter” scenario.
The worst part is when the content gets shared.
