- Comment on Steam Deck Users Account for 10% Of All Players Using Steam Input 1 week ago:
will tell you if a game supports the controller you currently have plugged in
Today I learned that. It never came up for me since I do most of my game shopping on my phone. That could be really helpful later. Thanks!
- Comment on Steam Deck Users Account for 10% Of All Players Using Steam Input 1 week ago:
Oh. That makes sense, I play mainly on SteamDeck, but I’ve been thinking of getting a Steam Controller for my PC, since the majority of what I’ve bought in the last year has been “SteamDeck Verified”.
- Comment on Linux user share on Steam breaks 2% thanks to Steam Deck 4 weeks ago:
I got tired of the Ubuntu crap, and was delighted to find that plain Debian stable is fantastic now.
- Comment on Change Bash shell 5 weeks ago:
Simplest answer would be too just launch Fish as the last step in your bash profile.
I imagine the SteamOS update process probably needs the default system shell to be bash, but that won’t stop you from getting the benefits of Fish during your login sessions.
- Comment on Do you still use your Steam Deck much? 5 weeks ago:
I’m at a very “play for couples minutes when and where I have time” phase of life. So my gaming is almost 100% on my SteamDeck.
- Comment on Steam Deck game library now 29% larger than that of Nintendo Switch 1 month ago:
That difference seems far lower than I would have guessed.
Oh. The “verified” status accounts for the difference. That’s fair.
My initial mental math was including unverified Indie games I already bought for my PC, most of which happen to work perfectly.
I expect that difference to go up fast on the next few years as more indie devs discover that they don’t actually need to change many of their old games to get verified.
- Comment on EA SPORTS WRC will be adding EA anticheat, game will not playable any more. On ProtonDB game is rated Platinum 1 month ago:
How dumb does one have to be to intentionally drop support for the hotest game console if the year?!
It boggles my mind.
Also, as a non-pirate (by laziness, not by conviction), I feel like I’m being offered an eye patch, a hook and a parrot every time I interact with a AAA game publisher.
- Comment on EA SPORTS WRC will be adding EA anticheat, game will not playable any more. On ProtonDB game is rated Platinum 1 month ago:
I like that. If they add that, I’ll spend more money with them in games I’m currently waiting to buy because I don’t trust the publisher.

How incompetent do you have to be to get in trouble for bribing politicians in this country?

- Comment on It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine 1 month ago:
Yeah. That’s why I run the Steam client on Ubuntu. Which works a treat, thanks to the popularity of the SteamDeck.
- Comment on It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine 1 month ago:
Good points!
I use my current one as a PC as much as for gaming.
I’ll keep that in mind when I build my next dedicated game rig, though!

What ever happened to SteamOS?
It’s still going strong! store.steampowered.com/steamos
Personally, I just like to install Debian or Ubuntu as the OS, and then install the Steam launcher:
linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-steam-on-debian-l…
I think the outcomes are pretty similar, for an average user. But I find it a bit easier to search for help about other things I want to do with Debian/Ubuntu.
I say Debian/Ubuntu a bunch of times here because, while I like Debian a bit better, there’s tons of help articles out there for Ubuntu, and 99% of them work perfectly on Debian.
- Comment on What is your favorite Open Source Game on Steam Deck? 2 months ago:
This is an exciting thread. I’m gonna check all of these out, thank you!
For me, it’s still MineGame on MineTest Engine. Particularly with LWScratch mod, adding programmable robots.

I’ve seen Kaiju action shows from Japan. I know “Turbo” isn’t something you want to be without, especially near an ocean.

Well, humanity had a good run. It turns out natural selection can include building something that will inevitably kill us all. At least there’s still time to leave some interesting monuments and journal articles for whatever replaces us.
- Comment on [Discussion] What kind of protective and carrying cases do you use for your Deck? 2 months ago:
I feel like a clip on screen cover is a necessity.l, to protect that big beautiful screen.
I use a cheap one, but many of my friends get the dBrand one.
- Comment on Chinese espionage a prime concern for connected vehicles, U.S. administration says 3 months ago:
That’s… Actually a good point.
Any society that values privacy should favor products (especially mobile network connected ones) produced in states and countries with strong privacy laws. Local laws can and should address this at import time.
I’m a big fan of certain popular American car manufacturers, so I hope the State of Michigan will up it’s legislative game before my favorite muscle car makers lose too much International traction.
- Comment on PSA - MineTest on SteamDeck 3 months ago:
Does this game have a multiplayer component?
Yes, and it’s fantastic.
I found it noticably more stable than Minecraft Java Edition multiplayer, and quite a lot easier to get started hosting.
I just picked my game (Mineclone2 is a good starting point) and picked my mods (I looped back later to get fancy with a MineGame modest), and the I jammed the ‘host’ button.
On a local network, other players just have to type in the host computer’s IP address and hit ‘Register’ once and then ‘Login’ after that. ‘Register’ is once per world - their username and password get added only to that world on the hosting computer.
Thankfully, on my SteamDeck, it remembers my details between plays, so I only had to mess with the virtual keyboard on my first play.
I host it from an old laptop. I let one of my kids play on that laptop, while I and my other family play on our SteamDeck or PC. My understanding is that an Android phone will work fine, as well.
To play with remote friends, 8t’s the same port forwarding dance as Minecraft Java edition, except that Mineclone on port 30000.
Would be great to mess around in something like Minecraft again without the need of a subscription.
It’s a joy! I’ve never begrudged the $25 to Minecraft, but it’s fantastic knowing I can keep my server world and mod setup much longer since MineTest is open source. I have a feeling that MineTest is going to join Vi on my ‘bury me with it because I’m not letting go’ software list.

- Comment on Steam Deck had a strong end to 2023 and a great start for 2024 3 months ago:
Yes! If they release a SteamDeck Pocket, that’s all anyone in my family is getting for Christmas from me.
Admittedly, at these prices, only one or two people will be getting gifts, but everyone else can gather around and watch them play, I guess.
- Comment on ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Lands at Fox 3 months ago:
That’s one season of television I will look forward to.
(Because Fox will cancel it after one…)
Joking aside, it seems like the teams on Baywatch enjoy the project? It keeps coming back the way Futurama does.
The movie was much better quality than it needed to be. I hope the balance of silly self awareness and serious respect for first responders continue in this series and the ones that will follow after Fox needlessly axes it.

Saints Row III plays wonderfully, and has a great mix of quick and longer play objectives, which really makes it fit the times and places I play on my SteamDeck.

- Comment on Twisters 4 months ago:
That’s a shame. The trailer looked really promising when I saw it with no sound.
I guess they need something, but it feels like the storm ought to be more than enough to be the “bad guy” of the film.
That does sound like really lazy filmmaking.
- Comment on Twisters 4 months ago:
I have no idea. That’s part of what makes me curious about the film. I only have the IMDB page to go off of, but it sounded like they’re going for realism in technique and technology.
- Comment on Twisters 4 months ago:
Here’s the thing: the real star of Twister is the storm chasing techniques and technologies.
And it has been decades.
The updated techniques and technologies deserve a cool movie too, and if they has called it anything else, I would be shouting angrily for the missed chance to call it “Twisters”.
Also, anything that encourages more people to watch “Twister” is a good thing. So I’m really hoping this new one isn’t awful.
- Comment on [Discussion] New month, new games. What are you playing on your Deck? - February 2024 4 months ago:
The gameplay is fine, but it’s the UI, controls and stuff letting it down. Its not very polished. Probably just early stages of development.
Yeah. This is definitely a game style I want, but I’ve been spoiled by the driving and controls polish in games like Saint’s Row.
- Comment on Stram deck wifi (Question) 4 months ago:
At least it used to be that you sometimes needed to open a browser. Maybe technology has advanced past that now days.
If anyone does run into this, it should be solveable by rebooting the SteamDeck into “Desktop Mode” by holding down the power button and picking the option.
