- Comment on Study shows AI coding assistants actually slow down experienced developers 2 weeks ago:
Research paper here: metr.org/Early_2025_AI_Experienced_OS_Devs_Study.…
I think these are interesting findings, they definitely conform to my experience, but I’d want to always have more data and larger sample sizes.
One point in particular stood out to me - the lack of LLM context. I have a new person on my team (junior level) that uses AI for everything, and it’s so obvious that the LLM is getting tripped up with the lack of context. Not all the required information is in a single repository, and it needs additional info like the documentation and spoken architectures that aren’t explicitly documented, historical choices as to why we make decisions in a certain way, or even just style guides. The LLM context window just isn’t large enough right now to be a truly effective programmer for large, complex projects

As a (begrudging) customer this sounds good on paper. But I’m suspicious as hell

This is superb. My wife has been fediverse-curious ever since the election, and last night she created a Pixelfed account and was so disappointed her feed wasn’t immediately filled with cool stuff. I tried to explain some of the points in this guide but I don’t know if I did the most convincing job.
I’ll send this her way and see what she thinks

Fights in Tight Places looks pretty fun. I’m a big deckbuilder fan, so always enjoy a new one. but that does make me wonder how Tainted Grail: Conquest runs because I really found that one to be a lot of fun. And also reminds me that before I buy a new deckbuilder I should probably play that Balatro game everyone talks about…

Weird to discover I’m in the minority for trusting the verification check marks. Sure, I’ve played games without a check on Deck, but I usually use the check to determine how smooth and enjoyable the experience will be.
I’ve realized I just prefer mouse and keyboard so much that I don’t find the deck as enjoyable as others. I still love it, but the number of games I’m interested in playing on it are very limited. So the check is helpful to know how comfy the game will be.
I don’t want to waste any time setting a game up or fixing issues on Deck. It’s just not what I bought the device for.
That being said, any recommendations for smooth, put-of-the-box games on the Deck that didn’t appear in the top 10?
- Comment on Microsoft confirms its Paint 3D app is being discontinued in November 11 months ago:
A shame because I actually use Paimt3D quite a bit for editing images quick and dirty. Hopefully some of the features make it to Paint before long
Microsoft has now put most of its focus on the existing Paint app within Windows 11 instead, adding some of Photoshop’s best features to the app and even updating it with AI-powered features.
Oh. AI features. Grand.

Kind of wild that in the face of competition from Discord they double down on their paid plans. I would have thought they would eventually improve their free offerings to compete for market share, but clearly they have no interest in supporting hobby groups and just want to focus on enterprise
